Do you feel as though you have the right to judge those of the same race? A few friends and I had this discussion earlier after another guy who considers himself a "redneck" called someone else "white trash." Initially, it got a lot of laughs, but as the discussion rolled on, a friend of mine openly said that he wasn't eager to help Katrina victims when he lived in Mississippi. The remark got a lot of mixed responses. Soon after that, another guy made a comment about how he loathes the term "hispanic."

Thoughts?

I feel that no race should be judged at all by who they are, how they act, their background, and their lifestyle.

Here's my dogmatic approach: racism shouldn't exist period. I don't care if you are the same race, quit playing mind to others and deal with your own existence.

Of course, we can't always help ourselves. I'm a California girl living in Tennessee. I'd love to think that I'm the type of person that wouldn't inch back from a pot bellied, toothless, sweaty guy in overalls wearing no shirt but I'm not. That terrifies the hell out of me. It angers me as well. I'm a white-looking girl living in the south. I hate the idea that someone would think of me as southern trash based on that information only and I blame people like that overall guy for the oft assumption that white people in the south are rednecks.

I know light-skinned black people that have expressed their beliefs of superiority over dark-skinned black people. Sadly enough, its really not uncommon.

My grandfather was Spanish. We're talking from Spain Spanish. If you called him Mexican, he would kick the tar out of you, no joke.

Although, I really didn't and honestly, still don't consider him a racist for that. He never expressed any distaste for Mexicans, he just hated the assumption that some make in southern California that if you're Spanish, you're Mexican.

I mean it really depends. Light skinned blacks do have this idea as though they are better than darker blacks. I know that I myself wouldn't date a black girl but that's just my personal preferance.

I feel I have the right to judge everyone of every race. I don't discriminate.

you are so right! I have dark skin but i never let any light skin person think that he/she is better than me
i just don't let that happen
i love my skin color & i look good/hot/sexy/attractive
the thing is - dark skinned African Americans just have to be more confident
& besides not every light skinned person is good looking/hot/sexy anyway

They did a show on Tyra banks about people hating their own race & how african americans that are darker bleach their skin to become lighter...that is just absurd. JUST LOVE WHO YOU ARE!

I have a right to judge whoever I want, but race is an archaic and ambiguous classification. My dad, however, is the most prejudice person I know. He hates everyone, including his own - he calls Iranians "filthy people".

i think a lot of people fall to stereotypes &joke about them. but i don't know that many people who are truly racist.
my asian friend literally doesn't like black people, just because some black people messed with him or w.e.
i told him that you can't really generalize the whole race based on a couple people.

also, a lot of people joke about racist stereotypes, &im completely fine with that. i don't really care about it.
people shouldn't take those things seriously. but when people are truly racist. it pisses me off so much. their ignorance is pathetic.
