Stupid. Who the hell would search for you by your username? Someone who knows you by your username ought to know your real name, so it's totally unnecessary. Now I have to deal with the xXsExiiChIcKaXx usernames that will ultimately flood Facebook. God, what next, profile customization?

Also, have to fight off the other 461 people with my name so I can get a semi-decent username on Friday, one that won't embarrass me if someone important happens to search me up. Ugh.

For real, I dunno what I'm gonna do. On one hand, I'd like to keep my internet identity separate from my offline identity. If Peter Parker had facebook, he wouldn't sign up with the username SP1D3RM4N for fear of having Aunt May hunted down and killed by the Green Goblin.

But then again, I don't want some random jackass taking kryo and soiling mah good name. Batman didn't like it when random dudes wore ghetto ass batman suits and fought crime in his name. I don't want random ninjas posing as me (I'M LOOKING AT YOU STEVEN). So I gotta think about protecting mah turf.

THIS.

I went back to YTMND for the first time in a couple years and the amount of activity there was damn near intimidating. I had a hard time keeping up in the debate topics because so many people were responding at once with well presented rebuttals.

I really don't like the fact there is going to be a username now.
I feel it's going to become tacky and slowly turn into a myspace or something. Where people will use stupid unnecessary signs and symbols with their username.

Indeed. We definitely don't need another myspace.

the point is obviously being missed. like tori said, it'll be in the url. this means, that if you know someone's username, you can type it in, rather than searching. it's A LOT EASIER than remembering the number id someone has. it has nothing to do with the actual name on your facebook.

^ Yeah I get what the point is, but it doesn't cut down on the time at all or make it more convenient for me. Personally I have no trouble typing in someone's name in search if I need to go to their profile. This is just a useless addition IMO.

I'm not really against it, since this would be all great if people had respectable, readable usernames, but it's the inevitability of annoying usernames that pisses me off. And what are the chances that I remember all of my friends by username?

It's also the dilemma between squatting for my previous awesome username or picking something with my full name. Numbers were just easier.

I agree.

Also, you have to pick a username that you would be comfortable with your boss/co-workers/family seeing.

edit:

which is a total pain in the bum.

Yes, exactly! Stalking people is fun though. Although it's like an unspoken rule that the people most worth stalking usually have their profiles set to private, lame.

meh. yeah, i think someone of the usernames will be really shitty, especially the crunk people who have their name set weird like 'straWBErrii shoRcakEE' or 'william irunthisshit smith'. but, i think it'll be more useful for others. fb is so huge now that you could probably even land a job from it. some companies even check your fb, so how convenient is it to share an easy url instead of telling them to search you. honestly, i think yall are giving it way too much hype. i don't see it being a big deal.

Btw, just realized that the periods in the usernames make no difference. That is really irking me. It gives the false impression of more combinations of usernames. *smh*

I don't understand how my first choice was taken when I'm just about the only Cristy Y. that comes up when you search my full name...at least, I think I am. I'm not sure. I got another one that I'm fine with, though.

Some of my friends have gotten usernames that are normal words. Those aren't going to look good when possible employers look them up in the future and see a silly URL.
