I was thinking of holding my own referral contest. The only problem is, I don't know where to begin or what to do. I've seen sites with referral contests, and they have this user control panel for the participants. Is there a code for that, or did they make it themselves?

They probably made it themselves. It's not too hard if you understand how databases work.
