I just sold a phone to a lady who was giving it to her daughter for her 6th birthday. She was so happy about getting it for her and said shes really been needing her own phone. ohmy.gif

Elementary school students do not need cell phones. Seriously, who are they going to call?

I got my first phone after my high school graduation. sad.gif

4th grade is when most kids around here get phones. This little girl is getting a pink blackberry pearl for her birthday. So not only a phone but a smart phone.

I got my first phone in seventh grade, it was a crappy old nokia. I got my first decent phone towards the end of eighth grade, it was a Motorola SLVR, I have a newer version of that phone now.

Wow no way? Thats so crazy...i got my cell phone in 8th grade, but that was because my mom decided that she was going back to work.
But wow...giving a 4th grader a blackberry? My first phone was a brick!

I got a phone in 6th grade I think. But only cause I won a tv I didn't need and I refunded it cause I knew where they bought it and got a phone. Then my parents were kind enough to pay for it the monthly fees. It was pointless without texting though.

This kinda makes me think, how there was a point where my brother didnt even have a phone (when I did) and now he complains every day tat we arent on at&t and that he doesnt have an iphone. But then again, he complains about everything. And he thinks everything he has is stupid.

Six? Damn, wtf. My brother got his first phone back when he was 11, but that's because my mom wanted to be able to call him when he went to his friends' houses or outside to play.

I'd rather have a Sidekick than a SLVR, but hell, that was a $300 phone when I got it.

I got my first phone when I turned 16. When I actually started to NEED a phone. Freaking elementary school is WAY too early, IMO.

My little cousins got their own cell phones about two years ago - one was 5 and the other one was 8. Then they both got ipod nanos this year (7 and 10, respectively) PLUS the 10 year old got his very own laptop.

This generation is growing up too fast :(

I'm not totally against little kids having cell phones because I got my first one in 4th grade, but 6? What is she even going to do with it? I didn't even really use mine to call or text friends until 6th or 7th grade since barely anyone else had one until then...

That's impossible. Bluetooth operates on a different frequency than wireless networks, and nothing can operate on two frequencies at once.

The only way you could have possibly reconfigured the bluetooth receiver to accept wifi frequencies is if you added more diodes in there, and then you wouldn't be able to use it as regular bluetooth.

I just sold a phone to a lady who was giving it to her daughter for her 6th birthday. She was so happy about getting it for her and said shes really been needing her own phone. ohmy.gif

Perhaps she got it for her little girl so that
she can be able to check on her every now and then to make sure
she is safe or for the little girl to call her mother if she needed her
like for example say... she missed her school bus. she will be able to call her mother or father
Did you ever think of that??
Thats the reason my mother got me a phone which was in 6 or 7th grade

Perhaps she got it for her little girl so that
she can be able to check on her every now and then to make sure
she is safe or for the little girl to call her mother if she needed her
like for example say... she missed her school bus. she will be able to call her mother or father
Did you ever think of that??
Thats the reason my mother got me a phone which was in 6 or 7th grade

yeah but at 6? What are you going to be doing at 6 years hold hitting the clubs or walking aimlessly throughout the mall?
When i was six i was probably over at my friends house with parental supervision and i could always use their phone if i needed to.

when your in middle school thats different, your more involved with things like sports.
So yeah they are both a bit different

ooh No i wasn't doing all of that
God knows my mother would have never let me hit the clubs at that age
but i was in middle school
i was involved in sports
sometimes i would miss by bus and i needed her in situations like this
&& she would sometimes just wanna check on me- thats what mothers do

I got a phone because of the massive amounts of hurricanes here. If another bad one like Katrina hits here and we're out of power for two months, I've got a cell phone.

better reason...but again not really.
A guard would probably take care of him/her and help them find their family.

I got my first phone when I was in 8th grade, but I haven't really needed it until just recently when I got my license. Now I'm required to take it with me so I can call during emergencies.

My parents like to buy expensive things that we don't need.

I still think i 1st grader with a blackberry is worse. I dont really see a problem with high school kids having them though.

Yeah, true. And you have to have a device to forward all your AIM messages to when you step out of the house, and a way to post all your silly/sentimental photos to Facebook while you're out at the local Applebee's for half-priced apps.
