third round: typography

i don't really know what to say about this. the best explanation is to look the examples we provide as well as research on your own. there isn't a lot of restrictions. we're looking for you to make an image of some kind using type.

examples

we suggest you go to deviantart and search typography or go to the typography section. i think that's the best thing you could do is just spend a little time looking at this kinda stuff so you can get a feel for what can be done with type.

think carefully about font choices and how your font reflects the overall message/theme of your piece. pay attention to detail, especially spacing. you can go as complex as you want or keep it relatively simple. i would encourage that if you are going to do something simple, you try to have a good concept behind it. there's a fine line between being simple and being lacking. on the other hand, it's better to be simpler and nicer than it is to do a sloppy job at something intricate. \

this round ends at midnight wednesday, june 17th. friday june 19th

that gives you two weeks, so a few more days than usual. i know someone will probably complain that this is too long but i think it's ok. most people probably haven't done that much with typography designs before and this will give people more time to mess around with it. actually it's cause my girlfriends birthday is on the 16th and i'd rather do judging after that then have to mess with it before. laugh.gif good luck guys

oh yeah, and don't forget, anyone can enter. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE TAKEN PART IN THE PREVIOUS TWO ROUNDS TO SUBMIT A DESIGN IN THIS ONE. send your jpg images to me.

those are examples for the theme this round, not something anyone here did. this isn't the results thread it's the new round announcement.

If I get this done by the deadline, I'll submit one. I haven't done much with typography lately, and this is a good excuse to do something new.

The only problem with this round is that there, are a few typography generators that turn an image into a typography work of art. Hopefully no one is lame enough to use one. Love this category though.

i don't really think a generator is going to turn up anything that good. generators don't care about concept or detail or anything that really matters. if someone used one they most likely would be submitting a shitty one anyway and lose.

arghhh, I made on but it turned out awful...juna saw...I think i just used all the wrong colors. I had it when I don't get it right the first time...

ps: this may be helpful.

http://www.richardsprojects.co.uk/products/font-picker/

It actually displays every font you have in your font folder and shows them being used. You can also downloading it. Makes looking for the right font a lot easier.

for some reason, i set the date to a date i was out of town and then i forgot to bump for any reminders. anyway, i'm going to extend this deadline to midnight tomorrow night guys.

JUNE 19TH @ MIDNIGHT

maybe....for now that's the deadline

we haven't gotten that many entries compared to the amount of people who claimed to want to do this round. if you wanted to do this round, and just forgot, but plan to do it now, send me a pm. i'm willing to extend this deadline a few more extra days we would for sure get more entries.
