![]() Not so many changes. According to the website the main difference is boot speeds. When I tried the 32 bit version everything worked but unfortunately the 64 bit version wouldn't let me use any visual effects. You should try it out. Does anyone know if it would break the contract of a computer to put linux on it? Also I noticed it had something new called janitor?! I mean ya it's useful but I never saw ubuntu trying to do that. ![]() |

I've honestly never been an Ubuntu fan. All it really has going for it is it's user-friendliness. It's all too bloated for Linux.

Docky? ![]() Ubuntu til this day still discriminates against my wireless network card. Those pictures are your desktop?... I was wondering why it had the 9.04 wall paper but not the dock <,<; |

Ubuntu is so easy to get working though. Get something like Slackware running.

Majority of Linux distros are made so that the end user builds his operating system. Ubuntu did all the building for us.. we just screw around with the eye candy lol

I need to get my hands on Fedora again. But, as it stands, my internet connection (when I actually have connection) isn't reliable enough to download the live cd. |

Use a torrent. Not sure if they have it, but it's so much faster and its safe. Opera has a built in torrent downloader thing.

I know how that is all too well. I'm pretty sold on Fedora, though. Ubuntu was a good starter car, but it is time to upgrade. |

I've got a fedora DVD that I want to install on my other computer, which has a CD drive. I'm going to get a DVD drive for it this weekend. I don't want to hassle with swapping hardware between two of my machines.
The other computer has Mandriva on it, but I don't like how bloated KDE4 is. I'm almost always running 100% CPU if I'm not doing anything other than letting the computer collect dust. I've been looking for a copy of Yggdrasil, which is probably the hardest distro to find. I don't think it's even been updated since 95, but I'm thinking it will fly on my old 1.4 GHz, 512Mb Dell from 2002. |

Ya right now I'm not too satisfied with SUSE Gnome. I've enabled the desktop effects / animations and my PC started to lag... which really made me upset since my machine should barely be effected in terms of performance. I should be able to have all eyecandy settings set and it should all work flawlessly.

I messed around with Kubuntu 8.10 and KDE4 was full of glitches. It seems like a Vista clone. |

I'm using 9.04 now, and I must admit it's looking up. It flies on this computer, which on XP can't even perform basic tasks, like opening cmd. Although this computer is older than the Ubuntu distribution, the newest version still flies on it.
Too bad this old ATI Rage can't support the desktop effects. I'm going to swap this piece of shit with an GeForce 6200, and adding some RAM to this pitiful 512 Mb. I can't imagine it being too helpful with this 1.4 GHz processor, but it will still work better. |

If you tweak xp right I have yet to use a ditro that is faster then it. Remember that computer that has xp, a 1.2 ghz processor, and 128mb ram It still opens mozila firefox in 5 seconds. Thats all I need. And I couldnt but a distro on it if I wanted to, cause the dic drive is broken! haha |

So last night, I went to upgrade my machine to Ubuntu 9.04 just so I can remain up to speed until I get my hands on Fedora. Well, I've made so many changes to some of my repositories, I a) don't know which repositories, and what exactly, I've edited and b) it will only copmlete a partial upgrade.
I've done everything from Medibuntu to install Ethereal. Am I f*cked? |

If you don't know where you changed things, you probably are f*cked.
Also, I forgot to get a dvd drive. I just decided to download a CD and install Fedora from that. |

Well, I corrected the problem. Unforunately, I deleted my third party repositories in the process. I just started all over, like I never had the distro to begin with. FML

Ubuntu runs like sex in Virtualbox, but Fedora 10 works even better.

Im not a fan of linux anymore. For a server, sure its great but when you actually think about it, it's just a pain. Its good to have a linux box though. Just so you can do stuff without being afraid of getting a virus. |
