Im not new to CB but I am new to layout design. I have looked through the forum here for answer to some questions before I start designing however there was one that I didn't see an answer for.

Could someone give me some tips/info on the proper ways to credit images, textures, fonts, and whatnot on a layout?

Do I have to put credit on the image I use as a watermark? Or could/do I put it in the layout somewhere or is it just enough to credit in my layout description?

Could I use images from DeviantART provided I have permission from the original artist, as well as give proper credit as to who the artist is and where I got the image?

Any info you can give me would be a great help and greatly appreciated. I would hate to spend all that time on a layout to have it rejected for something as simple as the crediting.

Also, does anyone know any good places to get really good graphics?

Thank you.

You should provide a link to the site or person who provided things like textures, brushes, or fonts. Although, a lot of people don't credit fonts because well, they're just text so yeah....

I think even if you left credit for a graphic, it would still be rejected. The layout has to be made by you and only you. It has to be original.

You can credit the sites/people that provided the resources that you used in your layout or graphic in the description part. It's not really necessary to credit them in the layout itself unless you want to.

I'm not really going to answer where you can get good graphics because again, you need to design and make the layout yourself.

Good Luck. thumbsup.gif

This thread addresses some of the major credit issues. Don't be intimidated by it though. I think that most deviantart submitters are happy to give permission, they just want to be acknowledged for their work.

I don't think that watermarks are necessary, but if you're submitting a layout (or using a layout) that utilizes someone else's artwork, credit and link in the layout itself is usually ok. It's still nice to communicate to the artist that you wish to use some of their work in your work.

Make sure to not use someone else's style sheet. Learn how to code on your own. :)

Thank you. I was already planning on asking permission to use the photos I liked, I just wasn't sure what the best possible way was to credit the original artist. I like to share wonderful photos I stumble upon with other people, but I want to make sure the artist gets all the credit they deserve for their time and dedication that they put into them.

I agree. A lot of people don't mind giving out permissions, they just want to feel good about their work and feel flattered that someone is actually wanting to use their work.

I have a full page on my site of every site/person that I got my resources from. I like to let them visit the site too and see what they think that way they know that you are not just using them and actually interacting with them.
