The brief: Illustrative designs of the Jack, Queen, King of each of the four suits. And each suit will be represented by a season as well. So each suit of Jack, Queen, King will be drawn to reflect the season that it represents.

Diamonds: Winter / Hearts: Summer / Clubs: Spring / Spade: Fall

Wowzers. The jack of the diamonds is my fav out of the two. I like how you kinda mixed old, with modern.

I'd really like to see what you'd do for the queen card.

I'd play with this deck. :)

That exactly xD
Awesome job thumbsup.gif

Wow thanks for all the positive feedback! I wasn't expecting them to be liked that much. Really motivates me to keep doing them. Thanks everyone.

Here's the first iteration of the Jack of Spades. Each card usually goes through about 4 to 6 iterations before I land on the final one so this one is by no means complete.

Update:
Reduced arm sizes for both arms, reduced the overall size of the Jack, changed the clouds, added leaves to the ground, gave him a backpack.

Here's hopefully the final draft of the fall one. This took me a lot faster than I thought. Hopefully it looks finished and up to snuff for you guys.

And here's a side by side of the three currently done.

For the jack of spades, I get an odd feeling it's not reversed. It looks more like a reflection off of a lake.. :-\

If you look closely at it, you'll see that it is reversed. Maybe he was trying to actually make it look like it was supposed to be a reflection. shrug.gif

Ah I see the reflection. It wasn't really on purpose but nontheless it is still reversible and if you see it as a reflection, it just adds more depth to the piece doesnt it :P

Anyways an update to Spring: no real details yet, just changed the composition and resized and relocated some elements.

Good call on that divergent. I noticed it too before you mentioned it. I also added in his staff or whatever it is that he wields in the original card.

Thanks divergent for the link. Printing and selling these are the furthest from my mind right now since these cards are going to submitted as a portfolio for my Studio Art AP test. I didn't start doing them wanting to sell them or anything.

Anyways, here is my absolute final preview for the Jacks. I have to move on to the queens and kings now if I am to make my deadline.

For the red hearts cards, I'd suggest lighting up on the texture when it's over the people, they kinda blend in with the sand with the texture at 100%.

his hair is white and it feels like his hair is blending with the sky. have you thought of giving it color?

I like the white hair on the jack though O_o it makes it...I onno, it just looks good as white since the whole card is kind of bright it makes sense to leave the hair bright too. Maybe a pale pink is okay but the white is fine.

Sorry but the Jacks are finalized :/ I'm not gonna touch them anymore.

I'm not really feeling this one a lot... The porch is way too dominating and the queen doesn't pop out because of the size the porch occupies, but I need the porch to make the card share one common object to reverse around with. Plus it doesn't really say autumn does it?

The updated one looks good but I'm not feeling it as much as the first...I don't know...I think having another character in the card would make it look less CARD and more postcard. Just my opinion though.

Personally I like the Queen handing out the candy, I think its sweet. But yea I think if the railing was shorter the porch wouldn't be so overwhelming in the card.

But I still kind of like the new one.

Love all the Jacks and I love the little crab on the Queen of hearts :D You should make a turtle on something :D haha

You should make some decks when your done for a special price. I don't know if you have a website or anything but I know having cards printed out doesn't cost to much. If anything you could make little prints if people like em'.

I like that you changed the color of the queen's dress; it helps make the card less monochromatic and emphasizes that she's the queen of spades. I just think that the bottom queen's right arm looks a bit funny, folded over the board like that. Is there supposed to be that strip of wood behind her lower half?

Thanks for the feedback. It really is pretty split down the middle between those two versions, but here is the pretty much finalized comp. I really can't afford to waste more time on this card, it's already taken too long.

A frog would be cute, but if she were just walking along a sidewalk it'd be better. I liked the original because it was so simple, but it did look a bit barren.

My deadlines May 8th. I kinda wanna finish a day or two before just so I can compile my portfolios together to submit.

Yeah the Queen of Spades really didn't pan out very well, but nontheless I'm quite tight on time so I pretty much have to settle on something instead of pounding it to death and delaying the rest of the cards.

Feels like it's been a while since the last card.

Thanks!

Minor updates, threw in a few more details. Made the flowers mistletoes. Gave her boobs. I'll probably replace the dog with a cat.

QUEENS ARE DONE! *exhausted
Actually they're not really done. I cut some corners with the winter card because I just really need to finish it and get started on the Kings. My AP testing starts in a week and a half and I have other school work bearing down my neck, so no choice but to close the deal on it.

So I present you the Queens!

They look awesome! Although, it seems every one of the Queens has a little animal companion, except for the Queen of Clubs. shrug.gif Good job though!

I think it looks a little odd to have his arms colored so differently. If you're going to do that, it might make more sense for his outer arm to be darker and the underside of his arm to be paler, since that's how most people's skin is. I also feel like the upside-down effect doesn't work as well as in your other cards, maybe because the kings are straight up and down instead of diagonal.

Yeah, I agree. Also, I think you messed up again on adding the white strip to the 'hat'. It still looks pretty good though. thumbsup.gif

Thanks everyone!

I took your suggestions in mind and I guess the new experimental composition wasn't working so I went back to the more conventional layout:

Alright final draft unless someone can point out something glaringly wrong (sorry but I'll have to side step the critique about the legs).

King of clubs...Ha. I think it looks really good, and so do the rest of your Queens.

Maybe you should update your first post with all the finished ones...That way people don't have to scroll through all the posts to find them. Just a suggestion.

Thanks! With this much positive feedback I might actually consider sending them out to print... but that would mean I would have to make the rest of the cards, as well as the package design, as well as the back cover...

Anyways, first draft for King of Hearts of Summer
