^ That's where you go to make requests, though to post a request you need 50 posts. You can contact whomever does livejournal layouts though, without a post count limit. I'd help you out with one, but I've never messed with LJ

and thanks for the info. I did get my layout figured out finally. hopefully it's something I'll keep for more than a few months. (I have this bad habit of changing it constantly because I can't seem to make/find anything I'm content with)
