So Utada is coming back to the US and releasing her latest album.
It is available on iTunes NOW. Please support her!!

Her album was released last week on March 24, and it was already 2nd on the iTunes Pop Chart.

The Tracklist

2) Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - FYI
3) Apple And Cinnamon
4) Taking My Money Back

6) Automatic Part II

I recommend listening to: Come Back to Me, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - FYI, On and On, This One (Crying Like a Child), Apple & Cinnamon, and Dirty Desire.

Who is Utada?

Utada is an American born, Japanese Singer-Songwriter. Ever since her debut in 1998, she has dominated the Japanese music scene. She is the best selling artist in Japan ever.

Okay, if you're new to Utada, then know these things before judging her:
1. Utada's NOT a foreigner: She was born and lived in NY for 12 years before moving to Japan. She did an English language album when she was 13, under the name Cubic U. It was R&B/Pop flavoured, rather mainstream. It never was truly released because of labeling issues and she shortly then went to Japan, where she became a sensation.

2. She's really down-to-earth: She is not your average "pop" queen that doesn't interact with the public. She blogs A LOT on her Japanese website, and is often rather revealing, sharing her small quirks, desires, etc. She's actually really a big geek in some ways, having this giant teddy bear that's taken a personality on it's own. She's really funny, quirky and odd and doesn't try to push really any perceived image, she just is herself.

3. She has a very distinct voice: It is weird, some hate it, others love it. However, once you hear it, it's pretty distinct, you'll never not recognize it.

4. She writes and composes ALL of her songs: Obviously, that says a lot about her as a musician and as an artist. If you're listening to her and thinks the lyrics stinks, that is perfectly fine, but please know that she puts her quirkiness as well as a lot of hidden messages in her written music.

For those who knows her Japanese work and know her by "Utada Hikaru," then "Utada" may NOT be for you. Listening to Utada, keep in mind her own diverse musical taste and how versatile she is.

The Album

The album totally beats her failed attempt to break into the US music industry in 2004 with Exodus. This album is more coherent and more mainstream. Although it is very "generic," the album itself has a very Utada feel to it and very catchy.

Did I mention that Stargate and Tricky (two very popular record producing teams) worked with her on this album? Stargate has collaborated with singers like Neyo, Rihanna, and Beyonce.

This is a fun album, don't take it seriously by any means. People forget that Utada is funny and very smart. I've heard many complaints that her at times overtly sexual nature in this album is horrendous and cheapening. However, in my opinion, she's having fun and being extremely cheeky here.

You can see a video of her talking about the album here:

Utada's Japanese work meanwhile have been known for their contemplative, poetic lyrics, but we all have to remember that Japanese and English are two very different languages. Moreover, America and Japan has very different perspectives on popular music.

The way I see it, This is The One is an experiment in "popular" styles, proving that "Okay you wanted something more mainstream, I'll give you mainstream!"

She is not out to revolutionize American music, but perhaps show that's she capable and knows her R&B roots. While it's not exactly satire or commentary I think the album skids it, it covers bases on what music makes America tick.

Her goal was bubblegum: making songs simple with a universal melody so that would stick in people's heads whether or not they like it. Big thing that I think shows her "experiment" in mass media is portraying a NOT serious "sexification" of her image.

Sexy?
She is 26 years old.
She got married when she was 19, divorced at 24.
The man who married her was her director, 15 years older than her.

The album is going to be sold via iTunes on March 24. Please support her.

I have all the songs but I want to buy the album nevertheless.
Yeah, the album cover does look bootleg, but she's not releasing it in a CD until early April I think.

Songs that I love: FYI, Apple & Cinnamon, On and On, Dirty Desire, Take my Money Back (its very 90's RNB).

Me Muero is good if you wanna chillax and just drink a cup of Joe.

I don't know about Automatic Part II and Poppin'....Automatic Part II really disappointed me.

PS: BUY HER ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rain falls on my windows
And a coldness runs through my soul
And the rain falls
Oh the rain falls
I dont want to be alone

I wish that I could photoshop all our bad memories
Cause the flashbacks
Oh the flashbacks
Wont leave me alone

If you come back to me
Ill be all that you need
Baby come back to me
Let me make up for what happened in the past

Baby come back to me
Ill be everything you need
Baby come back to me
Boy youre (one in a million)
Baby come back to me
Ill be everything you need
Baby come back to me
Youre one in a million

Lower East Side of Manhattan
She goes shopping for new clothes
And she buys this
And she buys that
Just leave her alone

I wish that he would listen to her
Side of the story
It isnt that bad
It isnt that bad
And shes wiser for it now

I admit I cheated
Dont know why I did it
But I do regret it
Nothing I can do or say can change the past

Baby come back to me
Ill be everything you need
Baby come back to me
Boy youre (one in a million)
Baby come back to me
Ill be everything you need
Baby come back to me
Youre one in a million

Everything I ever did
Heaven knows Im sorry babe
I was too dumb to see
You were always there for me
And my curiosity
Got the better of me
Baby take it easy on me

Anything from A to Z
Call me what you wanna babe
I open my heart to thee
You are my priority
Cant you see youve punished me
More than enough already
Baby take it easy on me

Baby... take it easy on me
Baby come back to me
Baby come back to me

Baby come back to me
Ill be everything you need
Baby come back to me
Boy youre (one in a million)
Baby come back to me
Ill be everything you need
Baby come back to me
Youre one in a million

Baby come back to me
Ill be everything you need
Baby come back to me
Boy youre (one in a million)
Baby come back to me
Ill be everything you need
Baby come back to me
Youre one in a million

This album really wasn't anything special. Personally I like Exodus better, but meh. I mean, it's not horrible, it has it's good points.

I love On & On (cannot stand the guy in the background though, blegh), Come Back To Me, while at first, was addicting in a sense, is very, very bland. Idk, it should've have been a single imo. Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence - FYI is the song that even had me considering listening to this album.

Some of her songs on this album have the most wtf lyrics ever. D:

But besides that, the album overall's pretty okay. I like "Apple and Cinnamon" and of course, "Come Back to Me."

Well, most of the lyrics are suppose to be funny. If you looked at the lyrics closer, it has a lot of hidden messages of what she's trying to convey.

Captain Picard - the captain on Star Trek.

She alludes to alot of things that most of her listeners would be like wtf? But all in all, she had the intention to make most of the choruses really easy to remember and catchy.

Oh, it's not that I didn't understand the lyrics. She used a word like "holla" in one of her songs. I just found it weird for her to be saying it, haha. It just doesn't fit her.

Lol, I think the phrase is cute, but she probably just needed something to rhyme with "innocent."

I might actually buy this album sometime since I like most of the songs and I want to support her here.

I feel like she couldnt because Japanese culture is more conservative in that sense (music-wise).

As she said before, she didn't feel as free to show her femininity when writing japanese songs as she does with english ones.

BUT OMG. she's getting pretty popular in a matter of weeks! =DD

I only loved these musics from her,
2) Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - FYI
3) Apple And Cinnamon

But overall, my very best one is Apple and Cinnamon, LOVE THAT SONG!

I was sort of bit disappointed, because some of her music beat sounded
like her EASY BREEZY album....

ooh I forgot "COME BACK TO ME" was in that album, I love that song as well!
