Has anyone else noticed that a ton of people seem to start relationships around the same time, and that now is one of those times? I logged into facebook few minutes ago and was greeted by a startling number of "____ went from being 'single' to 'in a relationship'" or "____ is no longer listed as single." Is this a pattern anyone else has noticed, or is is just me?

A lot of my friends starting going out with someone before spring break or summer and then once school starts up again they break up. Maybe they just want someone to go on vacation with them and to buy them nice things, haha.

Apparently January is the relationship season because "everyone is ready to start a new relationship along with the new years."

Yeah I've noticed this as well. I have a lot of those little notifications regarding relationships. And then the next day it goes from "____ went from being 'single' to 'in a relationship'" to "____ went from being 'in a relationship' to 'it's complicated'"

I cannot figure out why the hell anyone would seriously change their status to "it's complicated." I think it's pretty tactless when people jump into changing their relationship status and then immediately have to change it again. I'm pretty content with my non-relationship status right now.

^ I'm in a complicated relationship on FB with one of my guy friends. It's complicated because we both like men. Anyways...
I hate Spring because couples are outside kissing and being disgusting. |

Yeah, but I mean putting it's complicated and meaning it. That's kind of clever. I'd also rather appreciate it if people couldn't comment on relationship status changes. It's very tacky. |

Someone is absorbed in facebook as well as I.
I noticed it as well. Well, I was one of the many who changed from "single" to a "relationship" ![]() ![]() |

I find the little middle school kids (siblings of friends) to have the same trend as well, they're in a relationship for a week or two, then single, then back to a relationship for 2 weeks... then single. The saddest part is, they sit there and tell each other "i love you". People are starting to forget the meaning of those three words. ![]() |

I meant to say that with children they have a trend as well, a separate one that happens to be more frequent in regards to break ups then finding another relationship.
Over all yes that same trend that you identified exists within my list of friends as well. |

Oh, well yeah, I think that's always been the case. It was interesting in high school, because my group of friends, as a whole, didn't really date much, and when they did they stayed with people for a while. But in the class below mine (talking band here, it's too hard to generalize entire 600 person classes) they were constantly dating each other to the extent that it was hard to keep track of who was with who from day to day. I must say, they were probably much more normal than we were, in all our awkward social-ineptitude. God, I really don't miss high school. Anyway...

I just don't have a relationship status, because that way I feel no need to change it at all. When I started dating my boyfriend he took the "single" off, and I am just fine with us continuing to have nothing. It's much less tacky not to mess with the relationship status, but I have to admit that people's changes to keep me entertained/informed.
