I'm beginning to love baking more than I love cooking. Cooking is kind of like art, you can do a lot of stuff to it but there's a chance that you won't mess it up. Baking is completely different. I love how disparate ingredients come together to make something completely new. It's so precise, like science.

What's the last thing you've baked?

Probably cookies with a friend a year... I don't bake on my own anymore because I've had experiences where everything ended up tasting like flour. sad.gif It really is a lot of fun though!

You've got to start out with easy recipes like pound cake. Pound cakes are so simple and they're the most fool proof, IMO.

Oh man I love baking. I used to bake a lot in high school because I would give my friends cakes, cupcakes, & cookies.

I haven't baked in a while though. I miss it. sad.gif I have this baking book that has some interesting looking sweets.

Prob the hardest thing ive ever made was an angel cake.
Cause it had to bake for like a day on an extremely low temp.
But it was amazing!

that's exactly why I like cooking over baking, lol. Baking reminds me too much of my chemistry class, and cooking has more leeway for creativity and won't screw you over if you're off by a bit, from my experience.

Baking >>>>>>> Cooking

I like to make upside down cakes. I usually make cranberry upside down coffee cake, because the cranberries work so well with the coffee cake and it looks good (I posted a pic in the "last thing you cooked" thread.)

I don't know if it'd be considered baking, but I love making chocolates and truffles too.

hi-c do you ever make your own baking recipes?
With cooking its fun to make your own stuff and spices but when you bake theres a larger chance youll mess up. Do you use a cook book when you bake?

No, never my own recipes. I'm not ready for that yet XD.gif I find recipes on the internet and bake those. I think, though, that the different flavorings and spices you add in don't matter much as long as the batter is correct. I've added more cinnamon and nutmeg in things like pie, but the only thing you need to be precise about in pies is the crust.

I like using cookbooks cause it feels funner. haha.
I agree on the spices. But i always make sure i follow the directions when it comes to the flour egg milk and sugar and stuff. All the pie crusts I ever made came out dry...

I like finding ways to make recipes healthier, so I usually tweak them to my liking. My family are my guinea pigs. When I make pies that aren't sweet (pumpkin pie) I like using a nut crust rather than a regular pastry crust... I think the flavors work better together.
