So Hubby and I have decided to try for another baby. We had our first son 5 months ago. Obviously I want them close in age. I think it'll be easier to get the baby stuff over around the same time (bottles, diapers). And it'll be nice for them to be close. I think that mostly has to do with the fact that my sister and I are about 17 years apart.

And I'm 24 so I want to have them while I'm still young. And I want at least 2 kids. Maybe even 4.

So my question is how many kids do you want and would you rather have them close in age or a few years apart?

I've always said that I want three, but if I have twins -- which is highly likely -- I'm gonna stop there. If I end up having three, I want them spaced a little bit apart, like two to three years.

16 kids. It's not too extreme, is it? My great-grandparents had 22.

I don't know. I think it depends on how the pregnancy goes. My cousin always wanted three or four kids, but she had a really difficult time having her son, so she didn't have any more (he's a Freshmen in high school now). Also, if I were to have a kid and s/he was a little hellraiser, I'd probably wait until s/he got older to have another.

The one thing i've heard about having kids three years apart is that they don't always get along. I know two people who have siblings that are three years apart and they don't get a long at all, and one kid put it like this, he said that you don't know whether to consider them close your age or your little sibling.

I have two brothers, one is three years older than me and the other is four years older than me and we are pretty close. I'm not as close with the eldest, because he doesn't live near me and is going through some personal stuff. But my other brother and I get along really well. He isn't mushy mushy, but he cares about me a lot and I care about him a lot. I think the environment that siblings grow up in effects their relationships a lot. I grew up in a really bad environment, which kind of forced me to get along with my brothers because we needed each others support.

I'd like to have two kids: one boy & one girl. I think I'd like to have them two years apart or so.

Whenever I watch "Jon & Kate plus 8," it makes me want to have a big family because it looks like fun & I love kids. But then reality sinks in. pinch.gif

Hmm this is kind of true with me. My brother & I are exactly 3.5 years apart & for the most part we get on each other's nerves. But then we go through phases where we get along really well. I dk. I guess it's just a matter of what's going on. *shrug

i'm just gonna start with one and see how that goes for about 4 years. i love babies but i don't like the idea of having kids close together. my sister and i are 3 years apart and i can't stand it. t's like she's always right behind me or roundin' the corner. i've never liked us being so close in age so i'm not gonna put my kids through that.

Boyfriend and I discuss this pretty often. We would like atleast 2, maybe 3 of our own. And I'd really LOVE to adopt, but I am not sure how great the chances of that actually happening are. We're almost 20... young, I know. If we had a better income, we would have them sooner, maybe even now... but logically, that probably won't happen. So we're planning on marriage and everything in about 2 years, and then we'll go from there. And like others have said before, probably about 3 years between them.

We are SO excited about having our own family _smile.gif

im not sure how many i want, but i think i will have at least two. hopefully when they grow up i can tell them that You were a child, crawlin' on your knees toward it. Makin' mama so proud, but your voice is too loud. We like to watch you laughing. Pickin' insects off plants. No time to think of consequences. Control yourself. Take only what you need from it. A family of trees wanting, to be haunted.

Siblings who are born under a year apart are called Irish Twins. IDK why?

On this baby board I belong to, some people who gave birth in the same month as me (September) are already pregnant! And I know someone else who has 2 kids and they're 10.5 months apart. Which pretty much means she got pregnant right when it was okay to have sex again (we're supposed to wait 6 weeks). By then I couldn't even think about having sex so soon.

I think ideally you are supposed to wait at least a year before trying again. To let your uterus heal or something.

But just because we're trying doesn't mean we're going to get pregnant right away. And I'd love twins but it doesn't run in our family. :(

Well, when I'm at the appropriate time and age to decide to have a kid, I think I would want three. The oldest would be the son, the middle child would be the daughter, and the youngest would be the younger son.

If they're all girls, I wouldn't really mind. If so, I can always adopt a boy from a foster home.
