i wondered about how long most of you actually spend time working on a layout.

opinion:

it might seem 'wow, im good' making like a bunch of layouts a day but spending 1 hour of cropping out some image and brushing it here and there isn't pratical at all. i spend about 4 - 7 days on plain xanga layouts and from anything of 2 weeks to a few months on something i really decide to work on (which is praticly all).....

so vote and blabber away......

Nay... you're such a bitter artist =]
Can't blame you though, I know.

Not only does it take long to make the graphics.. getting the coding right is a bitch too. Hey do you handcode?

1-3 hours.. Usually, I just change the color scheme.. I don't really like spending a whole lot of time one cause you'll eventually get tired of the layout.. Am I right?! shifty.gif

yeah, i handcode everything. photoshop's generated html is just eyeblinding. html in all caps, width="" attributes.......it's unimaginable *shudders*....

i stick to web standards to hand code in pure xhtml and css. meaning no touchie tables....bring it on div(s).

'eventually' you would - even your best girlfriend you got tierd of her 'eventually' aigh? ;) but the work you put into is worth so much.......[pause].........you'll see what i mean soon enough.....

it takes me only 1 - 3 hours to first release the layout, and then every couple of days when i get bored, i'll look at it and get an idea here or there and tweak little things. that usually lasts a couple of weeks though before i end up changing it up again.

It takes me about a week to make MY layouts. Meaning my own graphics. My own images, et al. I usually don't use them for my xanga, but in my other websites.

For xanga, it takes me an hour or less since I'll usually use premade images/graphics [with permission and credit of course.. most people I ask are usually pretty generous and helpful] and coding is pretty simple with all the resources here. If I get real lazy I'll go to daydreamgraphics and just tweak their layouts for xanga. School is my top priority so designing isn't that important right now [AP clases bite]. Luckily summer is coming along

basically it. ^^

i can sometimes work on a simple layout for a long time because i get artists block or lost of inspiration and the coding takes forever and if i dont like what i made because its too simple and plain ugly i change in less than a week . . . yeah im one of those xanga wh0resss!! ( well used to be )

I'd say about 1-3 hours of actual work. Most of the time I spend time slacking off and wondering. Including the ponderingness, I'd say somewhere around 6-7 hours. Of course my layouts generally last for less than two weeks. Unless I'm too lazy to think of things. _dry.gif

5 min!!! HAHAHA! I AM THE GREATEST! HAHAHAHAHA! LOL, just kidding, I wouldd say 1-2 hours, but it also depends on the coding, that can take me up to a week, if i am feeling lazy.... But crap, Nay, you designs look so good, but when you had told me how you made those 2 layouts, you make it seem easy!

laziness is the least thing to have in design.........and i have a whole lot of it - heh. those steps i told you were the steps that actually took place, im sure you didn't want to know the much much of ctrl + alt + z that too place. you could say i divide one design into many stages. after every stage, relook, bad? then undo and try a different technique, or move the previously done effect around the place to see where it actually looks good. all that combined took me much longer...

i spend about 1-3 hours a day fixing and trying to enhance my Xanga page.

i don't do hand coding, cause I am SOOOOo beginer like. The only thing I know is center, color, Bold, Italic, ect. The SO basic html.

hmmm... my website layouts take about 2 weeks to finish designing and coding. it takes me to conceptualize an idea and then create it. and i'm a bit of a perfectionist, so i spend a lot of time adding finishing touches to the design, and the code.

nay and nas, two really good designers. i think i'm going to change my name to something na* so that i can be good too! _smile.gif

i chose 1 day, thinking on what i'm doing the skin on takes a while, then it's photoshop and coding, bugging people when my code doesn't work the way it's supposed to etc.
