Today's R&B artists don't do the genre justice. When an album is feature-heavy with mainstream rappers, and your lyrics have no depth then just being a singer shouldn't qualify that artist as a true soul/r&b artist. It's just pop-rap in a more mellow form.

Raphael Saadiq, formally of Tony! Toni! Tone! is back for a long overdue release. It combines the best of soul from the late 60's and 70's, while keeping with the bass guitar vibes that have become a trademark for NuSoul. If you don't know much about Raphael Saadiq, you need to do some research.

If you enjoy good music, regardless of what genre you prefer, then buy this album. If you appreciate a soulful love ballad that doesn't involve autotune, then you should buy this album. If you would like to conceive a child to the sound of music, well, then you should buy this album.

Baby makin' music!

Totally agree that today's R&B artists don't do the genre justice. This is about the only R&B album that's come out recently that I like at all. Although mostly it just makes me want to go download more classic stuff, which I don't have nearly enough of. I should get on that, actually.

man i'm having like issues lately. all the sudden i don't want to buy digital music. i want to have the cd in my hand and have a collection of all my stuff. but that makes it 20 times harder to buy music because while usually i would just go download this right now, i have to wait until i find it somewhere.

but back on topic, i like this dude and i do plan on buying this album.

Oh, I don't pay for my digital downloads. I would love to have things on CD, but who can afford it? Also my CDs totally go to waste because I don't have a CD player other than my laptop, so there's not my point. I want to start buying vinyl, but a) that's even more expensive and b) I don't actually have a turntable. There's like three in my basement, but my mom apparently won't part from any of them.

On topic...I feel like Jay Z is pretty out of place on this.

I think American R&B artists don't do the genre justice (minus Sharon Stone and the Dap Kings and Alice Smith -- but Alice Smith has a folksy vibe, IMO). Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Adele, Mark Ronson, etc, make the best R&B out there.

Of course the Brits do! I just think that foreigners in general tend to be a few years ahead of Americans on a lot of things.

Mmmm Brandon, I love this!! It really does sound like it could be straight out of the late 60's, which is wonderful. The guitar/drum are great and his voice is beautiful. I love that it is higher than I'm used too, but not nasally and annoying. I love his look too, retro-sexy. Not to mention he is a hottie :), I might have to invest in this.
