I'm talking about what you see on the outside. The paint. The fence. The yard. The porch. All of that shit.
What makes a house look good? What makes a house look bad? Why do some houses look boring and why do others look great? Why are trailer parks so frowned upon? Personally, I think Painted Ladies are where it's at, personally. Those Victorian-era folks knew how to do it right. |

Bad house: Vancouver Specials
http://www.vancouverspecial.com If you ever visit Vancouver and happen to stumble across a suburban neighbourhood, prepare to see many, many houses that look like this. I'm not sure how I would describe an aesthetically pleasing house. |

I'm not sure how I would describe an aesthetically pleasing house. That house looks like a shitty condo that was squished up into one house. xD |

LOL omg there are SO MANY of those!! My grandparents used to live in one
![]() There's this really ugly new house in my neighbourhood... you can tell whoever designed it tried really hard to make it look sophisticated. It's in a tan colour and has two (? or four) blindingly white columns at the front. And in the front yard is this equally white cheap-looking fountain that looks like a toy. It's just... so bad. I don't know how to describe it properly. |

I should take my camera with me the next time I go by it, but there is a new subdivision that has houses that are all exactly the same, just different obnoxious colors (like dark orange, red, yellow, etc.) and they all have huge garages that sit basically where the front yard should be. So not only are there are ugly houses but there are 4 car garages right in front of them.

Lol very nice.
Idk, they look more like businesses, not homes. In my opinion, the best homes don't cost millions of dollars and aren't too big. :x I mean, why pay for a bunch of space you don't need? I went babysitting with my aunt to this one really huge house one time, and there was so much empty space. It was so uninviting. |

There are many factors that go into making a house look pleasing in my opinion. Usually if the house has a clean GREEN law with some nice flora out in the front THAT DOSENT DIE, it would catch my attention, also houses with earthy colors, non of that pink or bright crap. Going with the subtle yellows and light blues will look aesthetically pleasing. Also if a house is sort of elevated. When you ride up in rich neighborhood, usually the houses sit on top of a small hill and the driveway elevates to the house (this is good luck in Asian cultures). New exterior, no wood paneling if the wood is rotting, so I would go with the stucco. And you cant forget the clean details like white border trimmed windows on a light blue or yellow house, or rod looking modern steel windows on houses with a white background. Also if its a suburban house, the lighting at night is important too, like the solor lamp lights :]

Stucco looks really nice with some sort of brick accent. :3 Actually, any house looks nice with a little brick, if it's done right.
I agree that the lawn is an essential. Ivy on fences looks nice, if the fences aren't overpowered by it. |

decent architecture, for sure. and the lawn! and flowers and such...trees always help. clean and tidiness. and of course, colors that don't make your eyes fall out. and i agree with brick.
