It's great that he's going to be our first biracial president, but I don't think that warrants its own holiday.

I'm going to watch Obama's inauguration in school tomorrow. :D

I'm watching it in half my classes anyways. Although if we aren't watching it in the class where it actually happens, I might skip it and go to my dads and come back for 5th hour.

but if like something were to happen (he got shot) then yeah, it would suck to have missed it live.

^ I agree, but only when it's a president that I like :S

edit/

In my opinion, Inauguration Day is the most important day for the United States. I think it should be a day where we have no work or school.

It is also my dad's birthday! ohmy.gif

That would be horrible if he does get shot and dies. Dieing in front of 1000s of people, your family, and having your death being video typed.

When I was still in school we had inauguration day off. But that's because I live in the DC metropolitan area so it's always a hassle. If you don't live here then you need to go to school/work. Historic events ≠ holiday. Do you get a day off on Dec. 7th or Sep. 11th? No.

i'm not going to school. i mean it's not like im going to learn anything at school that's more valuable or educational to me than watching this really. i'm just going to stare at the professor tell me about different kinds of rocks (since i'll be in geology at this time) and count down for when class ends shrug.gif if i had kids i'd keep them home too becuase it's something you'll remember.

and i agree with juna, i don't care about the 4th of july all that much mellow.gif

TiVo it. Or have someone else record it for you.

It'll probably be on the television at my school, they play CNN everyday anyways.

Think about it.. if you gave school off to kids and work off to parents, most wouldn't think of it as a day to remember a historic inauguration. I'm sure half of those kids wouldn't watch the inauguration or even aknowledge it. I think it would be dumb to give kids the day off. If I had the day off I would actually watch the inauguration, but were watching it in class anyways.

To close school on this day would have been pointless. Just because he's the first African American President doesn't reserve the right to have school off in his honor. Maybe if he does something else of great prestige and honor, then giving him his own holiday may make sense.

Hahaha, Arjuna.

I got out of class 20 minutes early, but I didn't hang around to watch it. The cafeteria, library, and halls were full of people watching it, so I wouldn't have been able to see much.
