I like a lot of them but I know for sure which one I don't like: Betsey Johnson's. It's sooo tacky.

I love the Betsey Johnson one just for the fact that her drawing is so unconventional. biggrin.gif

But yeah, the dress is......

Yeah the Betsey Johnson is fug but you gotta love her comments on the side LOL. Also, WTF at Zac Posen's design. FUG FUG FUG.

I like the silhouette of the Nicole Miller design but it's a little too pretty. But I'm seriously loving the Michael Kors. It would be gorgeous on her! Next would be Monique Lhuillier for me.

Badgley Mischka - the whole mermaid tail effect wouldn't be good on Michelle Obama at all since she's quite bottom heavy.

I love Betsey too, but it's like come on, Michelle would be the joke of the world if she wore that.

My favorites were Monique Lhuillier- beautiful
Diane von Furstenberg- so f*cking chic
Peter Som- white looks great on african americans (no racist)
Oscar de la Renta - very like "I made the dream" family oriented.

but wtf was up with Christian Lacroix?

Gosh, most of those seem too party-ish to me. I know, it's a ceremony and all but I would love to see her in something simple and classy. Less red carpet, more Jackie O.

I like Oscar de La Renta's dress for Michelle Obama. Very nice. And yes, DvF's designs are so elegant but I don't like the yellow stripes.

I also like Karl Lagerfeld's white suit. Very Jackie O.

These WWD sketches are actually for the Inauguration Ball, so I think the more red carpet, dressy looks are appropriate. However, some designers included day looks for the rest of the events that day as well.

^ Because what you wear is 90% of what people judge you by. Your appearance is pretty much everything. I mean, when you first see someone for the first time ever, you notice what they wear and their style. If you see a girl who wore nothing but all dark clothing, with piercings, etc, you would judge them as some bad girl, with a "I don't give a shit" mentality/attitude. If you saw a girl who wore mini skirts during the winter, you would judge her as she's easy and slutty. So what I'm getting at is, that what someone wear is really important. You do not want to be misjudge. First impressions are very important.

yeah but there is a difference between michelle obama dressing nice and being OMG SO FASHIONABLE! that's what i mean by it. she shouldn't dress like a hobo or something in the white house but i don't think she should be criticized that much over her fashion cause it's not like that's a requirement to be first lady.

I can't deny at all that image is important, but she's not the president. And even if it is that important, I would not pride myself on judging someone purely on their appearance. I would at least attempt to judge her (or the president) for their actions and not what kind of clothing they're wearing. Like, why is it so effing important that she dresses just as well as Jackie O did? Fashion icons are overrated.

I'm not going to lie, I judge people by their looks if I don't know anything else about them. I've heard Michelle Obama speak though, so I already judged her on that. She should let her husband do the talking.

i was just asking, i didn't mean that she dresses bad or good. my mom likes to rate people on how they dress. (she's old, so she judges by first appearance) she always rates what the first lady is wearing and such. "oh this good, this is bad" whatever. i think she stands out (:! she likes to wear bright colors and it's good, cause everyone in is suits that are in dark colors.

I understand that, but I don't agree with how Michelle Obama gets criticized more for how she dresses than how she behaves as the first lady. It's not right, I know it happens, and I'm saying it right now. If I agreed with it happening we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

shannlovin - Not hating on you (or anyone really), your question just sparked a thought I had.

Personally I think she dresses professionally and appropriately for each setting that she's in. For me that's enough. It's nice if she is exceptionally well dressed but it's not a requirement.

No I didn't assume that you did. I was just saying that people will criticize people all the time for the stupid petty things all the time. It just isn't Michelle. It's been apparent throughout our social history. But I got your point across clearly one what you are conveying.

lol and about the argument earlier. i'm not a big fan of michelle obama and i've never really noticed what she wears, really. i do agree with gigi though - people need to step away from criticizing what she wears above all else. however, i really don't notice people doing that aside from fashion blogs/magazines and such so... is it really that much of a problem?

The Monique Lhuillier, Badgley Mischka, and Michael Kors would have looked amazing on her.
Compared to those sketches, the dress she actually wore was eh.
