Watched it last night, and I was impressed how good it was coming from a German producer. Anyone who watched it want to explain this part.
Was the man who was helping out the little girl, her dad or boyfriend? Because I think she is only 12 years old forever, because that was when she got infected. So technically she must be ALOT older than 12, but just looks 12. I also want to know why they found it necessary to show the 12 year old girls vagina? Child porn? That was disturbing. I didn't see why they needed to show that part. Was the purpose to show that she really was a girl? |

It was also based on a Swedish novel. ;) The man was her guardian, as far as I can remember. I need to reread the novel (which is even more graphic than the film). The genitalia scene can be difficult to watch, but I paid more attention to theme than I did the visual, in the sense that love between two individuals can transcend gender. Also, countries like Sweden aren't so prudish regarding what is and isn't shown. I guess audiences there have a thicker skin and overall more liberal sensibilities. Like I said in the best of 2008 thread, the film completely blew me away. I watched in online (wha? :P) and was glued to the monitor the entire time. |

SORT OF EXPLANATIONS:
1. the dude is a pedophile, and, insofar as i understand, their relationship is purely symbiotic. he brings her blood, she allows him to use her for sexual gratification. 2. they don't show her vagina, because she doesn't have one. she doesn't have one because she actually isn't a "she" at all. she's a boy. i mean, she says it a million times over for christ's sake. she use to have a penis, not anymore (see above). oh, yeah, and like rebecca said... it's swedish. |
