I was watching a show and they had a quote from American journal of psychiatry that girls who suffer from anxiety are twice as likely to develope and eating disorder as adults?
Is that really true? It seems a bit far fetched to me. |

That kind of thing is usually based on statistics.
Hopefully American journal of psychiatry didnt get that from the top of their heads. |

It would make sense. Anxiety usually stems from an individuals inability to control their environment to their liking or having to face the what is/unknowns.
A big part of eating disorders is the ability to take control above and beyond to the point where survival necessities can be ignored. |

I'm not too surprised that they reported a statistic like this. Also, people with anxiety can become anxious when they have to eat in public. |

its just kinda scary to me. I have some anxiety problems and im also really skinny, i never worry about "omg im eating so much im going to get fat!" but i do definately want to get in shape? But not to where i want to loose weight and such.
Though i do get anxious when i eat in front of people, im always afraid they are judging on how i eat, thanks to the harassment i use to get in middle school. Im more afraid of something happening in the future for me i guess and that statistic freaked me out a bit. |

That totally makes sence because if you're naturally anxious then you will eventually become axious about your weight.

I know that they don't care, because they more than likely aren't paying attention to me, but I'd much rather eat where there isn't a lot of people. I agree that a lot of it comes down to control. When you have anxiety you like to control your surrounds and keep things structured so that it doesn't stress you out. And someone may just feel that they don't have much control over their environment, but they do have control over what they eat and how much they weigh. |

"anxiety" is so broad, it's definitely plausible (and probably true)

I wouldn't be surprised. But my point has already been expressed.

Yeah i mean i know they dont care but i still always think that they are still potentially making statements about it or something. I mean its not something to where its controlling my life or anything and i can control it. Like i eat normally when im at home for sure and at school (now atleast compared to middle school) its just public places where people dont know me and dont know like, what happened i guess? |

^ Yeah, it's not something I'm really concerned with, it's the other areas of my anxiety that I am concerned with. The only thing I don't get is that I can see people who have anxiety having problems with eating in public, but not when they are by themselves.

HOLY SHIT I AM THE SAME WAY!!!! i can only eat in front of my really good friends like if there are new people there i don't eat much cuz i feel so awkward. |
