Gwen Stefani has spunk. Katy Perry... not so much. And I'm pretty sure Gwen can sing. Katy Perry can't.
I'm kind of torn when it comes to their songs, though. Both of them have some pretty catchy ones.

Oh, and Gwen Stefani was (is?) part of No Doubt!!!!!!!!!

I don't really find them all that similar.
I love Katy, but she's not that great a singer.
Gwen's much better.

No, Gwen has a totally different style (at least imo) and doesn't sing about kissing girls, or never would. So I don't even think they're similar.

Anyway all of you are misinterpreting Tung's topic because he's asking if Katy Perry is a poor [man's] version of Gwen Stefani, meaning, she's like Gwen Stefani, but way worse. And y'all are like, no she's not because she's worse. Which is what poor man's version means.

^x2 M'bad. In that case, no, I don't think they are similar. The things they sing about, like Gigi said, are totally different; Gwen sings a lot about material things, while Katy sings about boy problems and being bi-curious. They're both kind of psycho in their own ways too; Gwen likes to hire imaginary Japanese girls to follow her around and Katy likes to prance around in granny panties.

The only thing I think they are a tiny bit similar in is that they both wear bright lipstick and like some sort of retro look.

Yeah I agree. Plus, Gwen Stefani would never try to pull of granny panties as a fashion statement. Come on now.

Gwen Stefani is a poor version of Gwen Stefani if you ask me. At least that is what it seems like the past few years. I prefer No Doubt over Hollaback anything. Just an opinion, of course.

She's never said she's bi. "I Kissed a Girl" may be bi-curious, but there's a big difference between what's being sung and what's being lived. And, of course, a big difference between being bi-curious and being bisexual.

I don't think that she's being pretentious, just irritating and even that isn't intentional, I'm sure. She's very bubble gum, in my opinion and while it may seem like odd content from such pippity pop music, to each their own. ;)

And let's be honest, I'm willing to wager a guess that at least 98.999999% of people, particularly women have been "bi-curious" at one point or another. Just seems to be happening at a younger age these days. More than likely it's because being "curious" was so goddamn taboo years ago.

It still exploits the legit lesbians and female bisexuals into the shit you see on the tyra banks show with the "barsexuals"

I mean I kissed a girl was a cute song but its just another f*cking setback to the LBGT community.

Calm down. I'm entitled to my own opinion.
Gwen Stefani wasn't the only female singer before Katy, and she sure as hell didn't pave the way for Katy on her own. Respect your elders enough to give them the credit they deserve.

^ That last sentence made no sense. Yeah Katy Perry is older but why does Rachel have to respect her? They're not even in the same f*cking industry. If you're going to mock someone, make it worthwhile.

I wasn't telling her to respect Katy, I was telling her to respect all the other female musicians(aside from Gwen) that came before her.
I wasn't mocking her, either.

Lol, this topic is comparing Gwen and Katy, so yes I am not paying my respect to other singers because thats not with this is about. And slore, it's called not taking the internetz so seriously.

PS Carri, I read in an interview with her that she never has actually kissed a girl despite what she told many people when the song came out.

Wow, I never realized that this song got people so riled up. I didn't ever think it was that big of a deal. When I first heard it I thought it was pretty catchy, but then I heard it a million more times and got sick of it.

Going by the lyrics, I thought it was about fun experimentation and I really didn't see anything bad or offensive in that. I don't think it's right for people to do it "to get attention" as the lesbian in the Tyra Banks show was saying, but I don't see anything wrong in experimentation in general.

I definitely don't think she's intentionally making a mockery of the LGBT community or turning the whole gay/lesbian/bi issue into a joke. It's not like an insignificant little song is really going to make me stop taking homo/bisexuals seriously.

Just my opinion.
