So, I'd like to understand why so many of you like to use the phrase "no homo." Is it really because you don't mean it in a homosexual way? Or is it because perhaps subconsciously, you don't want people thinking that you could possibly be gay due to whatever you said prior to "no homo"? Or what other reasons are there for the use of the phrase "no homo".

I think it's a sign of denial. Like, why be so quick to defend your straight-ness?

A lot of guys and girls in my school use this.
Just today some girl said "Oh, you're so cute! NO HOMO."
I think they're afraid of someone thinking they're gay.

But it is extremely overused, and is getting old. As well as 'uglycuz.'
(Dunno if it's spelled like that...but that's pretty BLAH.)

^ Wow, I've never heard a girl use that phrase.

I think it's just them being insecure. They want to compliment those of the same sex, but don't want to give the impression that they're hitting on the person. Or they're just trying to be funny... which is usually what I sense when people use it around here. =\

The term 'no homo,' made popular by the, then popular, Cam'ron and his DipSet crew6 years ago is said before, or after, a statement is made that someone can easily take out of context.

It's pretty juvenile, but it can be funny.

For example:

"Brandon, that's a nice shirt. It fits you well."

I don't take that as anything remotely close to being a sexual advance if one of my friends is casually complimenting me, but in a large group, that statement will probably change:

"Brandon, that's a nice shirt. No homo: it fits you well."

Ridiculous, huh?

Oddly enough, Cam'ron along with Dipset, Lil' Wayne and some of the other mainstream rappers that use the term are about as suspect as Boy George. mellow.gif

not really... i get the vibe that guys do it to be funny. it's not funny when girls say it lol. like a guy would say to another guy "i love you. *pause* no homo!" so it's just there for the comedic effect and it just so happens to rhyme so it's kinda catchy i guess? i don't think people use it in the "i don't want other people to think i'm gay" kinda thing

Wrong. That was the whole point of 'no homo' to begin with.

STICKAM! Ah, good times, good times.

Ayyo, can you go to my site, then go to the Internet Videos subforum and pull that 'No Homo' vid that Christina Trish posted a while back? I think if it was posted here, people will get what I'm talking about.

Because the term is a total joke. Hell, I'll use it for the hell of it because it's not that serious.

If guys say "no homo," they can justify grabbing each other's asses as they drunkenly wrestle. Or so went the one IRL instance I've seen it being used.

riiight... so like i said, people use the phrase in a comedic context, not in the "i'm really insecure and i'm afraid people will think i'm gay" context? lol i don't really know what your point is.

Heterosexual males shouldn't try to justify homo-erotic horseplay with a corny phrase, haha. laugh.gif

no, an actual pretty homo act is homo, but its an act that sounds homo but actually isn't due to its 2nd meaning if applicable.
for example, Sorry I can't be a veggie head because I love meat too much, no homo.

Well I think that it shows a lack of maturity. I, as well as a lot of my friends used to say it ALL the time. If someone said "wow, that thing is huge!" we'd all be like "WHAAAATTT!!!" lol then they would say 'no homo.' it was immature, but then it was the funniest thing in the world. Now that Im a bit older I see that it can actually be offensive. Its like saying that being gay is a bad thing, when in reality its not. So my opinion is: those who use it are either gay and don't want anyone to know it, immature, ignorant, are corny and that's the only 'funny' thing they can say, or a combination of all of these.

No one in our school uses it to actually like defend their "straight-ness". At our school it's a statement that makes something that can be taken pervertedly non-perverted. Basically, it saves you from having everyone within a mile radius scream "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID" after everything that leaves your mouth.

So, it's not only guys that say it in our school. Everyone says it and you hear it all day.

people say that when they joke around.
like, that's f*cking hott, to the same sex, then say "no homo"
meaning, jk, i didn't really mean that.
its normal, and just says, HEY, im not gay[:
just an FYI thing, but, doesn't really mean that
they are affirming their straight-ness or gay-ness, lol

i think people think they are tight for adding that to any phrase.
like saying "by bestfriend is so hot! no homo."

is used so often. its annoying.
& i think it offends gay people less than saying "omg school is so gay."

yea. I think they just say it because they don't want people to think they're homosexual. It's kind of ridiculous to tell the truth but whatever.
