a kind of discourtesy in the form of an act of presuming;
http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=presumption

I get home from work much later than everyone else this evening. My purse and my bag isn't even on the floor before I'm asked what I'm making for dinner. This is getting REALLY OLD.

Don't you hate it when people presume that you will do certain things on a regular basis?

PS - It wasn't my son who asked. A child his age should presume that his mother is making him dinner.

PSS - Am I using this word correctly? I don't want Cristy to kick my ass. ph34r.gif

I hate when people assume. In your case, said person should have gotten off of their ass and made something to eat.

I know what you mean. I work EVERY DAY. I had one Sunday off. And, still, I am told I will be babysitting, I am told I will be out all night doing things I don't want to do, I am told what I am cooking and when I am cooking it.
I don't even think I'd mind so much if someone asked me to do something every once in a while.

Presuming is making a conclusion without prior knowledge and assuming is making a conclusion based on other things that have happened, right? Like you presume something about a stranger, but if you know someone who does something everyday you can assume they are going to do it today? I don't know.

Anyhoos, my brother always assumes that I'll cook for him. His ex-girlfriend never knew how to cook, so she'd burn frozen pizzas. He'd call me up and weekends and ask me to make him things for the week. Since I've said yes to his asking, he now tells me I should make stuff for him. I don't have enough time to, so I just wrote up some really simple recipes for him.
