this is a continuation of my last topic about my jaw hurting

http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...p;#entry3069716

i was thinking it was teeth clinching, but now since it's only on my right side and it's far back in my mouth i'm starting to think maybe it's my actual teeth.

who's gotten their wisdom teeth out? how did it feel before you did? did your mouth hurt before?

console.gif If it is your wisdom teeth, it's going to hurt like a biatch. My brother has to get his removed sometime, but he keeps putting it off because he doesn't have time to take off work.

I'm lucky, I never got mine and none show up on x-rays.

They just look at your teeth and tell you what they're going to do. they tell you pre op, and postop stuff that you should do. Whatever you do, after the surgery, dont somke of drink through straws, just dont do any sucking motions.

Mine are all shattered in pieces, but I do have them...

You've probably already seen me post about it already, but getting my wisdom teeth removed was the worst medical experience I've had in my life.

The pain didn't really bother me (there really wasn't much of it...sharp pain that is). Your mouth would just feel really sore for most of the time. But it was really the sheer embarrassment of having to hole yourself up for a month (I literally did not walk outside the door for a month...other people heal in a week, good for them) and having to eat cold congee with a tiny spoon (because I could BARELY open my mouth), and having only ONE side of the face swollen with a hard lump the size of half a tennis ball, that really made it a horrible experience. I literally thought I would never get better. There's something so terribly depressing about lying on the sofa with a hot/cold pack on your face, watching reruns of every single possible show you can imagine on TV. All day. For a month.

How's that for a run-on?

Hit by a car LOL wow. Come to think of it, I wasn't that bruised at all. Just that weird hard cancerous-like lump on my face.

I hope it won't be like that for you either. It's really quite bad. Best of luck flowers.gif!

Well mine are still growing and my mom isn't letting me pull them out until they grow because my sister got hers pulled out two years ago and my mom didn't want me to go through that.

Basically she got drugged, went to sleep and she came home and passed out on the floor for like 8 hours and when she got up she was still out of it.

Good look to you. Hopefully you only have four wisdom teeth. I heard some girl had 11.

keke. But like I said in your other thread, I thought my wisdom teeth were giving me problems because pain seemed to come from there. Instead, it was that I had a swollen jaw joints. The dentist gave me some neurological drugs to make the swelling go down. I had to take those for a month (and that meant a dry month), and he told me that if the pain didn't go away after a month, I would have had to see a bone doctor. Now THAT was scary. I'm sure your situation is much better than mine.

I never had my wisdom teeth removed. About once every 8-12 months, another one comes in. It hurts like hell for a week or two. Sometimes I can't open my jaw. Then it pops through and everything's fine again.

I think I'm done now, though. Or maybe I have one left to come in.

so the dentist told you about your jaw right? i hope if it's not my wisdom teeth then he can give me some insight into what my problem might be.

I had all four removed at once about two years ago. It wasn't so bad.. they put me to sleep. My mouth was numb and big for a couple of days.. there was a lot of drool and blood invovled.. i had to put napkins on my pillow. I think i got a fever from the antibiotics (they will probably prescribe you some). The bottom two annoyed me the most. The top two were no problem at all.

It took about a year for the hole to cover up. I had to squirt water into it with a plastic syringe in order to get the food out of the hole.

that's about it.. i think you should get all four taken out.

don't get them taken out unless it's absolutely necessary. I mean, I had braces end of my freshman year of highschool. My dentist had the option of taking out my wisdom teeth, and she decided not to.

I used a waterpic to get the food out of the holes in my gums.

And don't mess around and get dry socket. That shit is NOT fun.

Word. Several studies have suggested that at least 60% of wisdom teeth removals are unnecessary [1].

i think you should get them removed while you're young.
It's going to cost a lot more if you're older.

I think my wisdom teeth were sideways... so that was bad. They could also mess up your teeth i think.. if it doesn't grow correctly.

ok you need to go to a doctor who will without hesitation put you to sleep. its torture if you are awake through the procedure.

this is what happened to me
-got an IV in my right hand
-woke up and drifted into my moms car
-threw up some of the nasty anesthetic when i got home
-went to sleep for a few horus
-drank a smoothie that my mom went to get
-took different meds at different times.

went back to work two days later. that was about two months ago.

^ Oh yeah, it was pretty weird for me too. I don't really know what they did to me, but I was aware that they were doing stuff to my teeth, just in and out of consciousness I would say. They told me I started hyperventilating and crying out of nowhere. wtf? I don't remember it though.

he took xrays of mine and we looked at them. mine aren't even grown in a lot. he said from looking at how developed they are he would have guessed i was about 16 not 20, and that mine are really slow growing. whatever that means.

then he told him they needed to come out. i guess all four. i don't know, he wasn't that specific. he said some shit about my bone growing around my tooth and i was like _unsure.gif

I had my oral surgery 2 weeks ago on 13 November & was perfectly fine 6 days later & was able to go to work.

I had 4 wisdom teeth & 2 extra teeth removed coz I'm getting braces.

My wisdom teeth have been slowly pushing these 2 teeth of mine out which made 1 like at a 45 degree angle...... the other 1 isn't that bad.... but yea..... hence the reason I needed braces & the need to pull an extra 2 teeth out coz my jaw was too small.

The top 2 wisdom teeth had already come out, so there was no problem removing them.
The bottom 2 impacted wisdom teeth were still under the gum so I was a bit swollen at the bottom jaw. I wasn't swollen to the extent that ppls knew I was swollen. I looked pretty normal, just a bit chubby. Hehe!

Because wisdom teeth are vestiges from earlier times if/when they grow in they tend to grow in so that they mess up the alignment of your other teeth (called impaction). Messed up alignment = bad, so wisdom teeth = removed.

Edit: Also, apparently, if wisdom teeth fail to completely erupt from the jaw (stay partially impacted), over time this can cause pericoronitis, an infection.

When I got my wisdom teeth removed, it just felt so weird. I felt like I was in and out of consciousness, only half aware that I was being operated on...halfway throughout the thing I began to hyperventilate and starting crying. WTF?! Yeah but definitely felt no pain.

GOOD LUCK JOANNE! It'll be fine. thumbsup.gif

So it's done. It took 1.5 hours to take those two teeth out (about an hour longer than it took to get my sister's four out) because apparently there was a lot of bone under the tooth and they had to dig it out, and now my jaw is puffed up and I look like I have a square head. I can't wait till this pain wears off.

There is a plus side to this pain... I asked my mom to buy me ice cream, and she said yes! She always either says no right away, or asks me if I want to be fat. Soo yayyyyyy

^Wow thats nice of her. Hot damn parents denying their children some ice cream?! WTF.

Anyway, getting your wisdom teeth out isn't that terrible, sure it hurts but not as much as other major surgeries. Plus, you get some sweet drugs for a few weeks. I had to get all mine out at once because of how they were growing in. I was terrified of going under and remember crying when they put the IV in me, waking up near the end of my procedure, then being at home eating an ice pop. I went to Disneyland the next day. My puffiness was down after a week and the pain went away completely after like 2-3 weeks. I never had to deal with getting food out of my holes, I just stayed away from solids for a while, good diet ehh ;)

o.o I was put completely under for when my wisdom teeth were removed. Some of the first (clearer) recollections I have afterwards are of my dry wretching in the car. >.> Yeah, it's not cool, especially when people outside are staring at you like o.0 The ortho-surgeon who operated on me kind of talked to me in a voice like I was a little child. I was 19 or so at the time.

^ dude, same here. my dentist tells me to get them taken out every single time i see him, but i've kept putting it off. now they're starting to grow in. you can see a little white corner of a tooth peeking out of the gum. when i get bored, i like to touch it.

I forgot to mention that, despite my mouth being numbed, I could still feel things. It was even hurting at point, so they had to inject me with more of that numbing stuff. =\

My friend compared his wisdom teeth coming in to giving birth and admitted he'd cry at night. Which made me laugh because I didn't think he had the ability to cry let alone feel pain. His were comming in really f*cked up though

When my 12 year molars came in they didn't grow in alignment with the rest of my teeth, so I understand having that issue. I haven't been able to get my teeth fixed because I can't afford it... I have some other problems, too, mainly with my jaw, but hopefully someday I'll get dental insurance that will cover the cost.

I've had a few friends who have had theirs out and did just fine, but I've also heard some bad stories. Just make sure that you find a good dentist to take them out, and try not to cause more anxiety for yourself by putting it off. If you've ever had any kind of surgery in the past and didn't have any problems healing, then chances are getting your wisdom teeth out will go just fine.

man this has only gotten worse over the last few days. i have a sore place on the inside of my cheek that's swollen where the skin has been pinched over and over by my teeth. it f*cking sucks. i figured out the best way to eat this way is to stick the back end of a fork in my mouth to hold my cheek out while i chew. this makes me look really f*cking stupid, but it's better to me than biting myself over and over.

it's pretty intense. i'm trying to get in for a consultation thingy with a dentist.

One day last fall I started feeling this terrible terrible terrible pain in the roof of my mouth (sort of near where my wisdom teeth would grow in) and within hours I couldn't open my mouth at all. It was horrible to eat/drink, talk, breathe, swallow.. etc.

I called my dentist about it and he prescribed antibiotics in case of any infection. The antibiotics helped a little bit, but the pain/inability to open my mouth was still pretty bad. So I then went to see my dentist, he took some xrays and it turned out it wasn't anything to do with wisdom teeth. Two weeks before I had this pain, I was sick with a viral infection. Apparently, some bacteria from the infection can get absorbed in the mouth and create these ulcers. So the pain, sore throat and inability to open my mouth all stemmed from this ulcer. He prescribed steroid ointment and within a few days/week it was feeling better.

With the xrays we also learned that I only have one wisdom tooth and it hasn't given me any hassle yet. Hopefully it will stay like that and I won't have to get it taken out.

I think I remember when you posted about that on CB and people asked if you had recovered yet. Do you know what would have happened if you hadn't discovered the cause of the pain? I've never heard of this kind of illness with anyone I know personally.
