In case some of you haven't noticed, we decided to update our Submissions Guideline which can be found here. There may be some things that are confusing so we made a thread for you guys to ask any questions you may have.

So ask away! biggrin.gif

Victorian backgrounds are like the ones on this page.

We're actually not too strict when it comes to that. As long as it looks like a lot of work was put into the rest of the design, it's okay. We're really just referring to when someone takes the default Myspace and slaps one in the background.

I'm not quite sure where to post this, but an image such as this too explicit for a layout on cB?

^I personally wouldn't reject anything made with that image for being explicit. The blood is minimal and there aren't any brains spilling out or anything. It's more artsy than violent.

I'll bring this up to the other Design Staffers and see what they think.

I don't think it's violent at all. Okay well... it's not as violent as other images I've seen. I really like it actually. You get a green light from me. thumbsup.gif

I can't wait to see the layout! :)

LOL Considering it's Cocaine Dunst holding the gun, I wouldn't say it's too explicit at all.

I love that photoshoot. That was a really good one.

^Er... your question has nothing to do with the Submissions Guidelines, just so you know.

But to answer your question, there are two threads in Myspace Support that will help you. This one will teach you how to make a default layout. And this one will teach you how to make a DIV OVerlay layout. If you have any questions, post in the respective thread. thumbsup.gif

Wrong place to ask but yeah I'm not sure you can edit or delete your own posts since you're just a member.

It takes time to go through the queue. I'm going through graphics right now.

It's really tedious. We, as an individual, decide if it's worth accepting or not, and then record all of the rejected submissions backstage, along with the submitter's name and why it was rejected.

It's just...super mega tedious.

^Seriously.

Before we decided to keep a thread containing all the rejected submissions & the reason why they were rejected, it didn't take as long. I think most of the time is spent copying & pasting things & typing into the thread. We're all trying our best. thumbsup.gif

^I accept good ones when I see them but most of them are backgrounds that require little effort to make. Like they just used a brush & saved it.

^Since when do you think you that the standards should be lowered? I'll never forget how you said I was accepting stuff below what the standards should be during my first week on staff (not going to lie, I was pretty pissed). Looking back, the things I was accepting were pretty high quality. ermm.gif

Plus, if they were lowered, the more talented designers would get irritated that their submissions were being bumped back to the third page because of all the crappy ones accepted.

Just saying...I'm done now.

I guess people like crap designs then...but we're designing for the community anyway.

No, I agree with you Thomas...definitely, but there still needs to be a cap on what's acceptable or not. Perhaps ask members first what they would like to see more of? I mean, I have no idea what kind of submissions go into the queue, but judging from what I see of what's accepted, I think we're doing okay. What are some lowered standard examples? Also, your coca cola analogy is different from cb. Lowering the price doesn't mean that the store has lower standards; they are both the same product and have the same quality. (But I see what you're getting at anyway.)

Yea, I like Dr. Pepper more too. Haha this is like market research. It's good. I think a poll on the front of the site would be useful, esp if it doesn't require member sign-up (is that possible?). It can direct to a thread asking for details too. I'm sure people will be willing to speak up.

The .jpg or w/e file you're uploading also has information about the camera it was taken with, stock photos are defined as photos with high quality, and can be used for multitude of purposes. A 1 megapixel picture means 528x384 size picture. Anything smaller than that would be useless.

Yeah, okay. I'm trying to submit some stock photos, but I always get that 1 megapixel-thing when I'm trying to upload 'em. It's so annoying and I really don't know what to do DDD: the picture is 604x450, should it be bigger?

^Try uploading it as a banner. It can be changed to "stock photo" after it's accepted.

I feel like submissions are accepted or rejected by different people's preferences. I might submit something one day and it get rejected by someone, then upload it again and it may be accepted. It's not fair. I understand REALLY bad graphics, but one's I've gotten rejected aren't that bad. I don't understand why they were rejected...but okay. I've seen worse graphics on here. Multiple people should be able to review your graphic. Just saying. It's really not fair that you take ALL artistic rights away. There's really not much you can make when you tell us NOT to make it in certain ways. That's not right.

^It is true that other people have slightly different views on things, but in general we're all on the same page. We all have the same guidelines and rules to follow. If multiple people had to review a graphic before the final decision was made, we would never get through the queue. Sometimes we consult each other if we're really on the fence about something, but for the most part we have to go with our instinct.

There are certain problems with graphics that are problems no matter how you look at them. Things like low image quality, choppiness, blurriness, clashing colors, etc. are all going to be there no matter which one of us looks at it. Rejecting a graphic for something like that is not taking your artistic rights away. Plus, we do tell you why it was rejected, and if we have suggestions on how to fix it, we'll give them.

Edit: I just looked through your rejected graphics, and I'm 100% positive all the other mods would have rejected them as well. The image quality was extremely low on those, and I even told you why and how to fix it. ermm.gif

Victorian backgrounds are those backgrounds that have those swirls. Like the following:
http://www.createblog.com/backgrounds/53157-victorian-pink/
http://www.createblog.com/backgrounds/53156-victorian/
http://www.createblog.com/backgrounds/5010...ground-in-pink/

Some examples of layouts containing victorian backgrounds can be found here:
http://www.createblog.com/layouts/tag/victorian/

Now you have to keep in mind that with every submission it's different. So if you were to submit a layout just using a victorian background with no editing done to the tables or whatever, then it'd be rejected. But if it looks like the layouts I provided here, then they'd probably be accepted.

The picture looks like Stephen Meisel even though it probably wasn't taken by him. I've never seen it before but I love it!
