does anyone ever noticed that when black/asian/hipsanic kids get kidnapped or go missing there they don't get national news coverage to the extent that white kids do?

aside from race , i don't even get why some kids get so much coverage and others get none. why do some get to be on the news for weeks and others never.

I've noticed that too... I guess maybe some parents make it a bigger deal than others? Or maybe the news stations decide on which stories are more interesting, and go from there. It's wrong, but the they're trying to get as many viewers as possible. shrug.gif

I guess not to them.
And I also notice, that, a lot of them are from important or rich families.
Or, families of single mothers.

I dunno...they try to make it as sad and dramatic as they can.

I literally was just talking about this to someone else the other day. That's really all I have to say, because I agree with you, but I just wanted to comment because I thought it was funny that I'd just had this conversation. >.<

It's sad to say, but I think it depends on how much money the parents have and/or how cute the kid is. You never see ugly missing children on national news.

the majority of the people in the US are white so the media knows that they will bag a much bigger crowd for white as opposed to another races kidnapping.

I live next to DC. A ton of black and hispanic people get killed every year. The barely make the headline for a minutes. Now if a white person gets killed they get like 10 mins of air time.

Very true. But that also says something about the people doing the reporting. Also, imagine if every child who was kidnapped made national news and was reported on. There'd be no time left for other headlines. Reporting in-depth on a missing child doesn't mean it's going to help him/her be found.

what makes a family more important than another? it IS sad and dramatic.
i agree that the more money you have, the more publicity youll get on your missing kid... or anything actually.

I agree with that part and I was going to say basically the same thing.

I think that Natalee Holloway got so much media attention because yeah, she's a blonde white girl but also, her story is different than someone getting kidnapped from a grocery store.
  • She was an adult: she should have been responsible for herself since she was 18 and not 8
  • She was on a school trip: there were others that were supposed to be responsible for her too
  • She was in another country: this probably made all parents and schools rethink trips abroad
  • She was with friends drinking and wandered off with some male strangers alone: women everywhere know that this is stupid and unsafe, also her friends should NOT have let her do that period let alone in another country

This I disagree to, there are plenty of stories about non-white people abusing their children. That story about Nixzmary Brown which happened nearly two years ago is still widely publicized.

you learn this simply by not being white.

But white people on the other hand, at least most of them need to learn it by taking a class.

a lot of them are from important or rich families.

DING! DING! DING! we have a winner!
The more important or rich the more connections the more connection the better the chance they have a connection to a TV station or a Radio station.
