This site uses Arial all over the place. But Arial is a cheap bastard font. Helvetica is much, much prettier. CreateBlog's stylesheet should prefer Helvetica over Arial.

Arial is still better than verdana. For some reason I don't have helvetica on my computer...

Why would anyone pay for a font?

^ Yeah, my prof and TA are requiring us to use Helvetica for our assignments in my Graphic Design course. Sucks Windows users like me.

After scrambling to find someone with a computer that has Helvetica (and failing), I downloaded it. I didn't find too many 'good' torrents though...

You'd pay for a font if you don't want the watered-down pirated version of Helvetica, where it's probably named something lame like...Telvetica. I'm not taking graphic design so seeing Verdana around the forums isn't really pissing me off that much. =p

What really pisses me off, though, is when people change the font of their posts to something tiny and unreadable, or serif.

That's why it's worth while to be invited to private trackers. The quality's much higher. I have no idea why you would ever find a watered down version of something like that? I don't actually know why I'm talking about this; the idea of paying for a font just seems absurd.

There are a ton of font-fakers out there - ew!

The only way I would justify paying for a font is if I was using it for commercial purposes.

I really hated Arial a few years ago...
and now I'm so used to seeing the font being used everywhere I don't feel it any more. mellow.gif

Failing to see how that font is any prettier.

I got a 6/10 too, but I'd never actually seen (or been aware of seeing Helvetica) before.

I only got 9/10 after reading the article on how to tell the difference. Damn that APPLE!

Even though I couldn't really tell the difference, I still like Helvetica more. And I never could have (or... I guess wanted to) handed in a paper with Arial font before, but I totally could have with Helvetica. =\

When I see Helvetica, I think JPod.

I don't really see how Helvetica is nicer either. It's probably just a Mac-user/graphic designer snobby preference, lol.

Maybe it's if it was a huge body of text you'd be able to tell the difference in prettiness? Hmm... I'm going to go try that now.

Edit: Never mind, I can't do it. Turns out the one I downloaded looks way uglier on Word than on InDesign.

I don't know, it's weird... the font looked really nice when I used it for InDesign, but it looks about ten times uglier and pixelated on Word. WTF?!

Oh yeah InDesign and other Adobe things tend to anti-alias font. Word = gross.

I would choose a dozen other sans-serif fonts BEFORE I would even consider Helvetica.

But if you have to use Arial or Helvetica (as this site already does), Helvetica is clearly the better choice!

I don't think I'd notice much difference. shrug.gif But if it was someone writing in small neon font, I probably wouldn't read the post. As long as no one does that, or types in a way like prince did... I don't care what font they use.

Times New Roman? I don't like serif fonts for forums... they're just too proper.

True. Helvetica needs to be more 'widespread' though.
Us, PC users don't have much choice. ermm.gif
