Well definitely more jeans.

Some simple tees that you can wear everyday to school. That's what I buy mainly since I'm too lazy to dress up.

Hm, depending on how cold it gets where you live... some nice sweaters. They look better than sweatshirts. Get some shirts that you can layer up so that you're comfortable. I don't like just wearing a t-shirt, because it isn't a very flattering look on my body, haha.

If you're big-ish, over-sized clothing will only make you look bigger. Try wearing more form-fitting clothes, you'll look a lot better.
Blazers work with any body type and they work with almost anything. They really slim people down(if tailored correctly). For a more casual look you can wear jeans, flats and a cute shirt w/ a blazer over it.
A pair of dark jeans is an essential for any wardrobe and they really look much more elegant than lighter jeans. If you can't find a pair that fits right go a bit bigger and get them hemmed up to fit your needs.
I'm not sure what your body shape is but if you're thinking about dresses, go for a wrap dress in cotton or cotton-like material. Anyone can pull off wraps and they look really nice. Pair your dress with a nice heel or flat in a color that adds a bit of contrast to the outfit.

Definitely get some jeans. Not baggy, not skin-tight, but you can actually do skinny jeans if you want, as long as you wear them with boots (dark jeans will look best). Boots are very slimming (and blazers are good too, like berrypop said). You don't need anything big; just look for longer styles. Boots, blazers, leggings that go above your ankles. Belts are good, too.

this fall try

trouser jeans, rather than straight leg. (charlotte russe, old navy)

trench coats (old navy, delias.com)

& v-neck tees in plain colors (wal mart, tillys)
