like "Well i failed all my classes, my life sucks" ...
grrr, downer..

I would say I am that guy. But I don't have a penis, so I can't possibly be that guy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone has someone like that in their life...

I sometimes feel like that person, though. After saying something like your example, I'd think, "Oh shit. I shouldn't have said that, huh?"

Am I making sense?

It's kind of hard for me to think before I speak. And it's not like I'm saying something absolutely terrible anyway. =P

But I don't know, I believe people should have to right to say what they want to say. I mean, you were allowed to complain about your B's, so why shouldn't that person be allowed to complain about 'failing' something?

Well I don't think that person is really a downer if he's one-ups your dour situation with a worse situation of his own. He's more of a thunder-stealer.

A person would be a "Debbie Downer" if you were talking excitedly about something you like and/or you're excited about, and they stick their nose in and say something like, "Oh, that? Yeah. That is really stupid." And you're like, was I talking to you? Or they say something like, "Yeah, I think I did REALLY bad on my test!" No one gives a shit. Stop ruining the party for everyone.

^it sounds like you mean nosy, but idk .

It's a downer for me .. like wtf, let me enjoy my moment.

And i specially hate when they keep "thunder stealing" me . Or making
something i like into something negative .. constantly, in the same
conversation, and the same thing .

Not nosy. Well, they are a downer AND they're nosy. They feel the need to rain on your parade. What you said about making something you like into something negative is EXACTLY what I meant.

I mean, sure you're allowed to say whatever you want, but is it wrong to show a little tact and shut the hell up once in a while?

Yeah, I understand what Danny (can I call you Danny?) and Gigi are saying about downers. Nobody likes it when something they like gets brushed aside or put down. Hell, I was just having a conversation with a friend about this exact thing! (some people were telling her how Radiohead music is not 'music'... she got very upset)

But I also think that everyone has been 'that guy' at one point or another. I admitted earlier that I'm one of those people. It's just a sort of reflex for me to give my opinion on something when it's brought up. I don't mean for it to be hurtful or annoying... it just comes out.

^ yes you may, <3333, lol .

I feel that I haven't been that guy. And if I have it hasn't been excessive .. because there is a difference between debates, and just being a downer.

And the person i'm talking about does it excessively in the same conversation, about the same topic.

It doesn't really get "brushed aside" because some people make an effort to butt in. It's one thing to already be conversing with the person, mention something casually, and then have it "brushed aside", and quite another to discuss something with one person and have the downer shove in the conversation and disagree, when they weren't even being addressed. It's like they purposely do it, not accidentally.

LOL are you talking about Sandy? I told her once that it wasn't music, but I was kidding XD.

Maybe we should come up with a male name... like we already have a Debbie Downer.

What about like, Donnie Downer? Or a Danny Downer?

my co-worker is like that (minus the penis part). she always has something negative to say. if it's not someone whose either dead or dying, it's someone going through something worse or similar to what you're going through. she's the ony reason i dislike being at work. mellow.gif _dry.gif
