I thought the 5th one was alright... I thought Imelda Staunton did an AMAZING job as Dolores Umbridge. But yeah, the part with Sirius wasn't half as good as I imagined it would be. =(

It was WAY too short, many things were left out(or acted out the wrong way), and the way they Sirius died didn't satisfy me or my friends at all. In the movie he fricking FLUTTERED into the vail. LIKE A BIRD. WTF! It's supposed to be a dramatic moment and it was so anti-climactic. The way Harry & Cho got to kissing wasn't even true to the book! Same with the whole Umbridge detention scene. Wasn't Harry the only one who got the skin tearing pen punishment in the book?

They had better get things right with these last 3 movies or I'll mentally slap them across the back of their heads.

I completely agree about Sirius' death... but you can't totally blame the directors or screenplay writers or whatever for the shortening and changes. I mean, the book was pretty huge so the movie HAD to cut some stuff out. And in having cut some things out, some of the little facts were changed. It's not like they were totally significant to the overall story anyway. =\

Buuuut yeah... it would've been THAT much better if they stuck to exactly how the book was written.

I understand why they cut things down & out but I feel they could have added in more if the movie was longer. I'm just a detail whore when it comes to book-to-movie translations. laugh.gif

I'm actually re-reading the book so I can compare the book to the movie when it comes out. XD

Gah I FREAKING AGREE with the 5th movie sucking. The 5th one was MY FAVORITE ONE along with the last one because of the FIGHT SCENES. COME ON, the 5th one is where they all kick ass and I wanted to see more!

Is it the general consensus that the 5th movie sucked? Because I really thought it was a great movie. Just as a movie, by itself, it was pretty freakin' good. Maybe something was lost in the translation (err...lost in the book-to-movie interpretation?), but as a movie it was awesome. I've asked people who aren't HP fanatics which movies they preferred, and most of them picked the 5th one. shrug.gif I don't think you can ever satisfy everybody.

Plus, there was no possible way they could've put every detail into the movie. The 5th book is the longest out of all the HP books, the details endless...you would literally have an 8 hour movie on your hands, maybe even longer. It's simply not realistic to cram everything into a movie just for the sake of being detailed. I always go into it thinking that I'm going to judge this new HP movie as a film, not as a comparison to the book. It's not realistic to compare.

But seriously, they could have put more fighting into this thing. Honestly, in their world it's a flipping fight for the death, not some kids that are just having a jolly good time.

When I watched the movie, it certainly didn't look like they were having a "jolly good time". Watching it from a movie perspective, the action scenes were pretty well spaced out...and I think, relative to the entire movie, the length was about right. I think maybe because you can get so caught up in the actual novel, and as fanatics we know that the fight scene was the most important part of the book, that you feel like the scene wasn't detailed enough? It would be lopsided to have a movie focus most of its plot on a fight scene when there are plenty more details that need to be included.

Although, this could be because I watched it in IMAX 3D and the fight scene was that much more awesome, maybe I overlooked the shallowness of it.

Well, now that I think of it, the movie didn't suck. It was a good movie but compared to how detailed the book was, they left out a lot of significant parts from the book. But I thought they did an excellent job with the whole Voldemort in Harrys head towards the end of the movie.

Also, it looks really creative by the looks of the trailer. I liked when Harry put his head in the pensieve (sp?) thumbsup.gif I can't wait!

I finished re-reading the 5th book a day before I went to go see the movie and the movie altered some parts and definitely missed things. But I agree, it was rather good for what it turned out to be. Despite the fighting thing/Sirius' death. That they could have improved, in my opinion. They definitely couldn't have put every single thing in it. But they should. shifty.gif

i nearly had a screaming fit when i first saw the trailer. i'm itchin' to see Half Blood Prince. i hate that they're making us wait so long. i wish the wouldn't leave details from the book out. there are plenty of fans out there that would be willing to sit and watch and extra long Harry Potter movie. they could do the same thing they did when the third (i thin it was the third) Star Wars came out: show all three of 'em in one night and just have intermissions in between.

That was my favorite book (I actually read it three times pinch.gif), and the movie just didn't do it justice. I know it was the longest book so they obviously had to leave a lot out, but it seems like they left out way too much and focused on unimportant things.

Yeah we totally had a OotP movie debate here before. Personally I really enjoyed the movie as a movie. Not particularly in comparison to the book, but it's completely understandable just because of the sheer volume of material to work with.

I think it's important to go into that theatre thinking to yourself: I'm going to judge this as a movie, and not as a book to movie adaptation. You'll find yourself enjoying it a lot more.

Also, DON'T READ THE BOOK RIGHT BEFORE THE MOVIE. That leads to so much more disappointment, haha.

i don't know that it was my favorite book but i agree that they leave too much stuff out. like in Prisoner of Azkaban (i think that's the one) when they kept doing all of those scenic shots of the lake and the whomping willow in the different seasons. they could have been showing so much more of the story itself. would love it if they would just make a full length movie.

I LOVED the third one when I first saw it, but now I can't sit through the whole thing. The end just kinda drags because we're pretty much being shown the same thing twice. I think they could have changed that part around a bit.

i don't even remember how it ended. i didn't like the werewolf(sp?). they could have done better with the graphic on that one. they did pretty good with the hippogrif(sp?). man my spelling is off tonight.

But Lupin's the shit. sad.gif But yeah, the 3rd movie was my least favorite. I agree with Gabi on how the fifth movie was a disappointment, too. But I can't f*cking wait for the sixth one. From the book, the only thing I remember is who dies laugh.gif

Luckily, I still have a pretty good idea of what happened in the 6th book. Keyword here is horcruxes pretty much. There will be a lot of trips in the Pensieve for sure. :D

I was getting nervous about the whole Harry/Ginny on film thing (because she looks so young) but after seeing this shot, I'm definitely cool.

Ha. Don't read about the cuts then. I totally get that not everything can fit into one movie (hell, they're splitting the last book into two films) BUTTTT, there's always a part of me that gets a little disappointed at some of the scenes/characters that get cut from the films.

I don't know. I think that for the most part, they do a pretty damn good job with the films. Each film has its own character/style, which I've always appreciated. I take the bad with the good and walk away with more positive than negative.

Just don't read the books before the film, and you'll be good.

Damn Ginny and Harry...still awkward. Probably will be just as awkward as Cho and Harry.

I wish they would make Draco more the hot sexy bad guy rather than the cowardly ferret-y bad guy. Yeah, totally not true to character but makes for a good watch...

I saw that on the news this morning and got so excited that I forgot my lunch.

I can't figure out what a lot of those parts are. I guess that's a good thing since I can't be as disappointed that they left anything out if I don't even remember what happened.

The sixth one looks much darker and more intense than the fifth. Most of the fifth was far too silly; that song associated with Umbridge in particular. It was the shortest of all the movies which really is the most illogical thing. But yes, all the previews (especially the one on the entrance page to the official site) look so incredibly amazing and my heart beats way too fast every time I watch them.

we don't have security in my movie theater... seriously. If someone decides to go out one of the side doors, you can sneak right on in before the door closes. At night, no one can even tell.

i know right. i'll probably bring some sort of small dinner/snack in my purse. i'm certain i'll get hungry half way through the movie. found a recipe on mugglenet for butterbeer btw. seems pretty simple.

1 cup (8 oz) club soda or cream soda
˝ cup (4 oz) butterscotch syrup (ice cream topping)
˝ tablespoon butter

you heat the butter and butterscotch syrup together and then add the cream soda. the cooking instructions on the site say to do this in the microwave but i'll be doing it stove top. hope it doesn't suck.

I'm shelling out the money to see this, at least once. I don't usually see movies in the theater, because it's so goddamn expensive but I do make a few exceptions (I saw Star Trek in the theaters, for example). The previews look wonderful, thus far.

OMG dare I say it...when the HELL did Tom Felton get hot?

Okay so I know there are many die-hard HP fans who have always found him hot, but I have never been one of them. HOT DAMN. Loves it. It's like when Neville got hot.

Also, HQ stills from HBP!!!
