hey
so i made a div layout and i'd love to hear what people think. it's only taken me about a month lol. which i dont think is too bad since i've never played with divs before. and i never realised how many things firefox and IE had to disagree on, gosh.

anyhoo, i've tried to make it look more like a blog which i half intend to update regularly.

this is it

the music player started with a tutorial from theflashblog.com which i edited, enabled random playback, and enabled it to accept a playlist file through flashvars. i've got about 61 songs on random at the mo... thinkin i should probably cut it down soon tongue.gif

and the background is from a desktop wallpaper site. i'd prefer to have something thats my own but i dont really have any skill with images. so any ideas on the background would be great. as well as any other criticism

thanks _smile.gif

I especially like the links, think you did a great job on them.

But I don't really think the wallpaper matched with the white and pink, I suggest either find one that will match with the colors or change the colors to match the wallpaper.

A light shade of pastel green to replace the white maybe?

it doesnt really, if i'm honest. i guess i was just getting lazy by the end. i thought the greens gave it a kind of warm feel which i liked, but admittedly i have been looking at this layout for weeks, so i wont have the same initial reaction that you guys will.

i dont know if maybe a pattern would be better, or to stick with an actual photograph? i do like the whole nature thing..

@ForgiveTheSinner: i'll give pastel green a try tomorrow. time for sleep now laugh.gif thanks for the suggestion

I really like the arrangement of everything and the simplicity, but as ForgiveTheSinner said, the background and content area don't match. I think just a simple pattern would look nice (stripes, perhaps?). Other than that, I think it's great. :)

I like the content and how it's a lot different than most. Although, it's best to have the same color tones. It goes from the background of dark earthy tones with a slap of white and pink. It clearly does not match but it would look better if it does match.

Another thing that bugs me is that people with higher resolutions (such as me), I can see the cut lines (straight edge) on the left of the background image since it's positioned top right. It would be nice if it was blended onto the black or something.

Yeah, I can see the left edge of the background too. But it's cute; I like it.

Apart from what was already said about the mismatched color scheme, the footer links aren't styled like the rest of the layout, and the copyright at the very very bottom is nearly invisible. But those are really minor things. It looks awesome for your first; great job. :]

I think this looks really neat, especially for your first DIV.
I like your navigation and the roll-overs, but I don't really think the pink matches with the background, like a couple of people said. I think the music player looks nice with it, too. I really like where you put the top friends too.
Also, idk what you call it, but you had

" status
single

hair colour
red

instrument
guitar

drink
red wine

air
quiet"

That part looks cool. I just thought it was kind of weird o.o

thumbsup.gif i agree. it looks great, minus the background. something like schizo mentioned (stripes) would be cool.

yeah i realised that resolutions would be a problem the other day too. so i think i'll stay away from photos from now on. shame... cos i really like them on my lil lappy screen lol.

so i've changed the background to some stripes. links here again. i'm still not mega happy with it. i think it looks bland without all the extra colour. so i'd still love your opinions.

i havent styled the footer links yet because i was expecting just to cover them up. once i add another post they'll be underneath the backdrop div. its rally just luck they that poke out the bottom like that lol.

although, does anyone know if covering up the footer links would be a breach of myspace T/C? and if so, does any body know the code to style them? i think i tried once before and failed :(

thanks everyone for your encouragement. i'm really happy with how this has gone thumbsup.gif

Well...... the new green-brown & white striped background still doesn't really match with the pink-white-and-grey thing you have going on in the content.
