So.

I was discussing this with my friend earlier, and we did not know the answer.

Say a guy has a sex change, and then comes over all religious, and wants to join some kind of cloister. Does he/she have to become a monk, or a nun?

Also, would you ever consider joining up at an abbey? Obviously a question mainly for people with beliefs.

You don't have to join anything. You can always live celibate as a consecrated single.

I've discerned, decided matrimony is the way to go for me, but never hurts to think more about it.

Well, yeah, but this hypothetical person wants to join something, but which one?

I don't think sex changes are recognized in the Catholic Church. I don't even think they're scientifically recognized, you can't change your chromosomes from XX to XY or vice versa. So my best guess is that if it was a male, go find an abbot and see what they have to say about it. If there was any surgery, I'm not sure if it has to be reversed or not.

Dunno what the Church of England has to say about it.

I'm not religious but I say nun. B/c if he becomes she then it's official(even if it's against god's will).

Hypothetically, he should probably communicate his wishes to both types of organizations and get feedback. They might want to go with the original/natural gender since in their eyes it might be "what God had intended." So my guess is monk.

I'm rebelling (not a person with typical beliefs) by answering this. If I were a religious type, I would have to say no. I fell like it would be too restricting and that I would let people down by not being strong enough to handle the responsibility and self sacrfice.

I fully intend to our local vicar about it next time I run in to him.

CAN you even reverse a sex change?

I am so intrigued by this concept for some reason.

Well, a better question is, was the sex changed in the first place? As I stated, unless there has been some remarkable breakthrough that I'm unaware of, the person probably still retains an XY karyotype and is genetically male.

From my point of view the person had cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery can be reversed.

If I was in that position, I'd reverse it as a penance even if it wasn't required.

To be fair, not all cosmetic surgery can be reversed, whether or not it changes anything genetic. That's not so much a point of view thing as whether or not it's medically possible, is what I meant. And having said that, actually, given that I'm not aware of ANY surgery which changes your actual genetic make up, then is any surgery non-cosmetic?

Plenty of surgery is non cosmetic. Tumor removal. Heart transplants. Amputation.

I don't know anything about this situation. I'm just saying I'd do my best to make myself back to normal. If "your friend" got breast implants, I think you should remove them, for example.

also there's no reason for me to be nice anymore as libertie broke her end of the bargain, so f**k off and choke on your friend's dick

*sigh*

Oh, dear, the banal insults are going to begin again. And when you do that, you really aren't ceasing to be nice, so much as you are ceasing to be interesting. But whatever.

Fits in nicely with the general CB atmosphere, yes?

No. I'm making an observation.

The truth is, kryo's right: CB used to have plenty of interesting discussion. Nowadays, it seems like most discussions are centered around name-calling and other stale forms of insults.
