My boyfriend's about to go to jail, I think.
I can't talk to anyone around here about it because that would risk someone telling cops more than they already know.
I just need to talk to someone.
It's not like I didn't know he'd go to jail at some point in our relationship, but dating someone that's incarcerated is hard. Not only does it take a toll on your relationship, it takes a toll on you.

I really just want someone to talk to me about it.

He found a wallet and kept the money.
He split it with the person he was with and we were going to put a down payment on a house together.
I guess it was a cops wallet, though, and it had a badge in it at some point.
The page could get him impersonating an officer.
They are sending out theft detectives tomorrow.
If he gets theft charges they are grand theft charges.
He gave all the money back, but I'm scared.
He's my baby, ya know? Those are f**king heavy charges.

He's probably just go to county which isn't that bad. I could visit him twice a week. But you can only get congecals if you aren't married.

It was close to 1000 dollars in the wallet. He didn't see the badge, the guy he was with saw the badge and took it and gave steven half the money. The house we were going to get had a 500 dollar down payment, and Steven used to build houses so we could have fised it up all nice. we were so excited, we just kept saying that it was a sign from god he found it within feet of the house we wanted to buy. We thought it was a sign things were going to get better for us, I mean he is about to get his license for tattooing and we thought everything was just setting up perfectly. That was like the best stroke of luck ever.
He didn't look at the ID or anyhting. He didn't know who's it was because eh didn't want to be tempted to give it back when it could have helped us out so much. I mean, that's the exact amount of money we needed to get the house.

It's like everything went from perfect to terrible in 15 minutes.

People find other people's wallets all the time and nothing EVER happens, but if you find a cops wallet it's like a federal case and shit.
If he gets all those heavy charges he'd be doing at least a year, at the very very least. I think we are looking at something closer to 5-10. If he's in jail for 5 years I just don't know how that would work. Seeing your boyfriend for twice a week through some glass on a telephone is not a good way to carry on a relationship. I wouldn't be able to really see him until I was f**king 23, he'd be 25. I'm so scared this is going to kill my perfect relationship.
I never knew someone that meant as much to me as Steven does. He's one of the only people in the world I know I can really trust for anything, and now I won't have him. He completely supports me. He's pretty nervous and I am petrified. I'm trying to stay strong for him and I know I'd try my f**king hardest to make things work, but I don't know how I could wait at least 5 years for a kiss or a hug or smelling him. The thought of 5 years without waking up next to him breaks my heart.
The agents should be here tomorrow or the next day, and we will find out exactly what charges he could get, but he already has a ttp which they could easily turn into a bench warrant if they can't get him on anything else.

Sorry for all the spelling errors and stuff. I'm pretty bent out of shape over this.

I'm going to be honest when I say that karma is a bitch. Think about it from this standpoint: If he would have never even taken the money, nothing would have ever happened to him. Receiving stolen goods of any kind is punishable by up to at least 6 months in some places. I hope that he doesn't get any time at all, but next time he must think of the consequences first ya know.

It wasn't just a cops wallet. It was a cops wallet with a badge in it. That's the tricky part. When he took the money, he knew what he was doing. It wasn't like his friend found the wallet and gave him some money and your b/f didn't know where it came from. Yeah, like Javonn said, karma is a bitch, and the sad thing is that he isn't just hurting himself here, he's hurting you too. At this point, I think you really just need to sit down and talk with your boyfriend. Tell him to get his story straight.

Man.
I've been woken up by a theft detective for the past 2 days.
I've dealt with more cops in the past few days than most people deal with for most of their lives.
He got the guy he was with to turn the badge in, finally, after they tried to pin it all on him.
He was facing grand theft and theft of government property.
Any lawyer could have gotten him off with only a month or so in jail. But, he is out of trouble now anyway.

You know, it's easy to say "i'd return the wallet" but when you have nearly 1000 dollars looking right back at you, it's hard to turn it in. That could have put the down payment on our house and got him all the new tattoo equipment he needs. We needed that so bad.

I guess I'm sorry and all, but being someone who's had her wallet stolen and lost close to $500 because of it, I really have no sympathy.

Where on earth would you be buying house? It's unheard of to spend no more than a grand on a "down". You've got closing costs, house inspections, homeowners' insurance, doc fees, loan fees, etc. And not only that, but you were going to have enough to get his tat equipment too?

I apologize for my cynicism, but that just doesn't make any sense to me. So queue the tough love -

Get your head out of your ass. Your boyfriend's as well. What he did was dishonest, dishonorable, petty and not to mention stupid. If it was indeed a cop's wallet, the hell would he keep it for? Sign from god? I don't have a great deal of thoughts regarding gods, but I've yet to hear about a god that would give this type of blessing.

If he goes to jail, good. It's a tough lesson, but it's one he needs.

Sorry. I'm not a mean person at all, but the mom in me is just roaring right now.

You act like we are bad people.
The down payment for the house is 500 dollars, it only costs 9,000 to own. It's not the biggest, nicest house in the world, but since he used to build houses he could fix it up for us. It's not even through a bank it's just some guy trying to sell a little house in a bad neighborhood.
I've had more shit stolen from me than you could ever imagine, as has he, so I figured that was us getting a little something back, ya know? It's not like we stole it, he found a wallet. If that REALLY needed that money he shouldn't have been so careless with it.
Going to jail wouldn't change anything. It wouldn't be his first time. Jail doesn't "straiten people out". If anything it leads to more of a discontent with the law. I am pretty sure that's one of the reasons it was so appealing.
I don't need to justify his actions, I just needed someone to talk to about it, I was scared.

Oh, Yeah.
I mean, they say it's okey.
The sheriff is going around saying they broke into the car, dropped a cell phone, and that's how they got caught. Which isn't true AT ALL. Steven doesn't even have a cell phone. What the f**k do you do when the sheriff is talking shit? It's not like you can beat him up.
And, we've been pulled over twice since then.
I guess we are gonna be hot for a while over this, which is LAME.

Like Mel said, coming from somebody who's had their wallet stolen as recently as last night, he deserves to get whatever is coming to him. For you to say earlier that if it were one of us who found that amount of money, it would be hard for us to turn it down is silly. Having your wallet stolen is a bitch, because then you have to go through the sometimes long process of replacing EVERYTHING in it.
I mean I can only speak for myself when I say that I would never take money out of somebody's wallet not even if it were a quarter. To me it sounds like you are trying to justify it by saying that you could have used the money, but there are other ways to get money as well. The fact that the cops are hot on you guys right now is not lame, and if anything it is very justified because of your boyfriends actions.
I'll put it to you this way. You really have no right to complain about what happens here on out, because it was your boyfriends stupidity that got him in this situation in the first place. What if I came and took your wallet that had a g in it? You would be mad as hell right now, not thinking...well gee willickers....I hope they put it to good use.

i will agree with that. even with my boyfren going to jail..we both knew the actions he chose were the wrong ones and he was being man about it by serving his time. he isnt a bad person at all..just the complete opposite, but like i said..he made a wrong choice one nite. but at the same time..he didnt run or we werent like WTF?! && complaining about it. yeah we complain about still being harassed from time to time..but we understand why..

But what he did wasn't illegal, immoral, but not illegal.
The cops even told him that. They just wanted charges to throw at him to get the badge back.

You act like I've never had my wallet stolen. He didn't steal it, though, he found it. If that guy wanted that money so bad he should have been careful with his wallet, he's lucky that it was Steven that found it because the video evidence would do him no good if the person on it was as identifiable as he is. But, like I said he dropped it, we found, finders keepers. It seems that that rule always applies until we find something, though, because a few months ago when I lost my wallet the cops told me you can't prove money is yours and no one has to turn in my wallet, and I shouldn't expect them to. If I really wanted that money I would have been more careful with my wallet. But, when it's a cops wallet it a federal f**king case, right?
