i used to be in a forum where there was this point system, i forgot how you got them, i think like every post you did or something... but anyway, you could trade them to other people too... so why dont we have that? i want that... its good for game prizes and such...

Do you mean like the little prizes they have on other MB? Like when you got points and then you bought these little pixel gifts and you could give them to other people? I mean if your just talking pixel gifts then I wouldn't really care. I would have to be something Jusun would have look into though.

you get, lets say 1-10 every post, you can give as many as you want any time to any user, you can give some to users who win your game, make you something by request (pictures, layouts, ex.) all that stuff! i dont remember how you actually got them in the old forums...

okay so i shall break this down, on certain forums you get a point for like every 3 post or something like that, or 10 points for starting a topic, then there is a prize thread where there is a list of prizes and their worth of points, then if you have enough points you win a prize, some prizes can be domains, hosting [I know 25+layouts but not everyone can make layouts] maybe a 10 dollar gift card to an online place, idk its up to whoevers in charge to come up with prices and prizes

i dont know, i dont know much, let the mods work the whole system out if they adopt this idea! i guess you get a point every legal post! 5 for starting a topic! they're like money! i guess you can give, like, 5000 away or something for a domain, i dont know, its not my place to make rules for the domains... but you can give a certain amount to another user for winning the game you made or having them make you something! thats the main point for points!

Don't worry, it's not like I'm trying to bash on you. Anyway, I remember someone else suggested some sort of point/prize system a while ago, but I don't remember the reasoning behind why they never implemented it.

I don't like this. I feel like it will just encourage people to spam and make pointless posts to gain points. As in "yeah." "i agree" "no". cB is full of enough annoying douches we don't need to encourage more.

Well good for you but look around at the quality of a lot of members. We don't need to encourage people to post when their responses are useless and bring down the IQ of members. I just don't see the point in points in a community based (as well as layouts) forum. Unless there are enough designers to even maybe offer free graphics, it doesn't seem worthwhile.

some general forums have monetary systems, but it's usually because they want to give incentive for people to post. cb already has an established community, and i doubt we would even make use of any monetary system. besides, i think it's also unfair to receive any type of 'cb' prizes (graphics, domains, or anything design/web-related) just by posting. i think the current system with submissions is already highly generous.

"used" how exactly? some gamer forums have a points system that is implemented with an rpg system. other general community forums give "prizes" such as being able to change options that are not available to regular members, ie changing color/style of member title, lower mod priveleges, access to a vip lounge, but that's basically what being an official member is for on cb.

so, what's the point of a point/monetary system on cb? essentially, the question is, what are you willing to give members when they reach a certain amount of points that is not already being given on cb?

This reminds me exactly of Blogring's points system, and like Arjuna said, Blogring died. My account there somehow has negative points now, but whatever.

I am not sure what forum softwere CB is running on, since there is no copyright at the bottom. But Invision Power Board has a mod you can install that is called "IPB Store". I have been on a few forums in the past that used this.

You get points for posting and making new topics. And then in the store you can buy cool prizes. Some of the prizes I remember are:
- Change another member's sig
- Change another member's title/headline
- Upload a smiley
- Mystery money (random amount of points)
- Recieve a password for a secret forum
- Secret message
- Added to a special member group
- View another member's warn log :P

Those are a few of the examples. You can make new ones also. PhpBB forums also has a mod like this I think. Anyone know what forums softwere CB uses?

On the forums that I have been on in the past, we have never had a problem with people spamming to get points. I just didn't happen.

It's not a bad suggestion, I'm just not sure if it's a right fit for cB. If enough people wanted this, I would support it. If Jusun were around more often, I'd even push for it (as much good as that would do) if the demand was there. The problem is, I would much rather Jusun focus his efforts on the arcade, because that was essentially promised a LONG time ago and something definitely wanted by a lot of people here.

Anyway, I don't think something like this can work for createblog. At least if actually comes down to putting real money in to it. Unless plenty of the community would be open for donating money, which I highly doubt would happen.

I've never seen actual real prizes for any of the contests or anything here so I doubt a point system could survive, at least who ever was dishing out the money for it.

If we had prizes like adding new smilies, or getting some new color for your username or something like that then I'm sure we could do it, but yea real money and real prizes aren't going to happen.

Honestly, this is going to put more work on the moderators, especially when you have mods who don't mod. Moderators have to be more active if they want to control spam. And trust me, THERE WILL BE SPAM because this is a LARGER FORUM. It probably doesn't happen on smaller forums because people don't feel inclined to spam, since it's more visible when a member spams in a smaller and less active forum. Plus, there's some stupid-ass topics being posted lately, and more points and money for that? Those members should get DEDUCTIONS for that kind of crap. In addition, with prizes, they will still need to regulate it. I mean, I just don't see this being strong at all if there are moderators on staff who don't/won't mod. Just saying.

I still don't see what's so great about this, even if this can be "turned on or off." If this isn't going to be a forum-wide system, then it's not necessary. Oh yea, and for free domains, no wai. Jusun wants to use domains as a way to market createBlog, where you have to link back to createBlog, submit layouts, etc. How is having a money/point system going to benefit createBlog, statistically? It won't, so most likely it won't happen. Obviously those who contribute to createBlog (submissions or being moderators) will get subdomains. That's just how I see it. :shrug:

EDIT - And I HAVE been on a forum that uses a monetary system. It just so happens that those forums are much smaller and require more activity in their forums in order to access certain things, so it works out for them. Granted, they were anime/manga forums that used the monetary system so that members

I agree with Rebecca. If there was wide spread support for this, I would be more inclined to support it, but personally I'm just indifferent. I can't see this making a dramatic impact one way or another in terms of improving cB, and there are other things, such as the arcade, for which we should be pushing.
