You can't keep running from what you're trying to find.

I've been thinking of getting a Motorola Pebl, but I've heard mixed stories about its ability to demagnetize things, like credit cards and harddrives(?). But others say it's just a myth, and that it only takes a super strong magnet to do that.

Anyone have experience with that, or Pebls in general?

as far as I know, the only "things" that can be demagnetized by cell phones are the little key cards when you stay at a hotel, so I think you're safe. wink.gif

If you're worried about it, you should consider a different phone. The PEBL is a shitty phone anyways. whistling.gif

But I heard that a guy tried it (well, I am going off on what is said on forums) and he said the cards still swiped fine. But there are suggestions not to put your credit card sandwiched in between the phone (between top and bottom).

I'm going to assume that credit card companies have found ways to make it hard to demagnetize their cards. If you have really old credit card, than it might. My mom used to be worried about anyone in my house putting their cell phone on the microwave, because "back in the day" microwaves would mess with cellphones.

My debit card has been de-magnetized two times, and I always keep my iPhone right next to it.

My bank even told me that it must have been my phone, and I don't have it near any other magnets, so I think maybe it is true that phones can de-magnetize cards. =/

Its pretty easy put your card near a powerful magnet or a strong electomagnectic field so that it will loose its magnetic shield
