I'm not sure if this is worth putting on my computer. What are the good things about it? What are the bad things about it? Should I put it on my computer?

Illustrator is useful for you if you do a lot of vector work (by vector, I mean an actual vector, not the vectors of people with many layers that you see around here, aka vexels).

For example, if you're a designer and you do a lot of logo work, you'll need to create the graphic logo using vectors so that you have the most freedom when it comes to size. That's why the pen tool on here is supposedly better. I don't know about that, since both Illustrator and PS are Adobe.

You won't really need it if you're just an amateur and you make things for fun and purely for showcasing on the internet. If you're planning on any print work, especially of the graphic variety, Illustrator is best. Otherwise just stick with Photoshop.

I use illustrator (as Thomas mentioned already, lol). I use it to make vectors, gradient meshes, paintings, and logos for some companies. It's great because it's vector-based and can be resized to virtually anything and still keep it's quality.

One of the pluses (which might also be a negative) is that it automatically cleans up lines that you draw with a paint brush, so if you were to draw or sketch something on it with a mouse and it turned out jaggedy, it would auto-correct it to be smooth.

I personally like it more than photoshop, but it might be because I'm more used to it and know where everything is already. Learning Illustrator is a bit of a pain, but once you get a hang of it, it's a really great and useful program.

If you want to see some examples, you can visit my site: http://www.exklamity.net/

It's still in it's preliminary stage and I don't have a lot of things uploaded, but all of the graphics are done in Illustrator.
