So, I don't know if people in other states do this, but here in Jersey it seems like it's a necesity for the guy to match his date's dress. Example, my dress is like a baby blue type of color, and prom date is going to match it. Is it really that big of a deal to match? If you ask me, my date could throw on an all black tux and throw on a baby blue tie and I'd be fine. Heck, I'd be fine even if he had no blue on. And, I don't want him to spend too much money, because he's going to three proms this year-- mine, his, and another girl's prom at another school. It's only my Junior prom, too, so I'm not going to be as decked out as others will be.

I think that's pretty much the point. You don't go with a hot pink dress and have your date wear yellow. I guess it kind of shows who's with who.

^yeah, and it also looks better in photos and things when you and your date match. although it looks really tacky when some couples match down to their shoes, but what you mentioned sounds just right (that's what i had my date do-i wore a gold gress, and he had a gold tie)-that way, your date can also save money, if he just changes ties and doesn't buy/rent different suits for each prom.

I think it's kind of tacky for prom dates to match too closely, but the dress and tie thing sounds right.

Well, if he's wearing an all blue tux to match you, then it's tacky. Like the denim thing Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears did. Ew. But I think it's cute when they match, it shows that they actually thought about prom.

Dude do you know how hard it is to match a red dress with.. anything (sophomore year)?
It depends on what you're wearing, though, and what your preference is. If all else fails he can always just to black and white and will probably feel less awkward in doing so. But if he wants to try to match, then by all means let him. As long as you guys aren't clashing, it's no big deal. |

you don't want to look like kid twins that wear the same outfits. the color of your date's vest &/or tie should match your dress. i agree. the tie and/or vest your date wears should match the color of your dress. nothing too over the top or it'll just be tacky. like at my prom a lot of couples got their outfits made to match exactly. it was craptacular! so just keep it simple and i'm sure you'll look lovely! ![]() |

Yeah for mine, we just kept it simple. He had a nice red tie to match the red in my dress, but thats it. Still looked good.

Don't worry about the matching thing, it's really not that big of a deal. Now that I think about it, the only real advantage of matching is so you know who is there with who. Kinda like oh, so and so is with them because their colors match exactly. |

Usually the guy just gets a matching vest and tie... and a boutonniere. But I would be fine if my boyfriend just wore all black; I think that looks really nice and sleek. I'd actually rather him do that, to be honest.
If that helps? Idk.. I'm from Jersey too.. I didn't think that was only a Jersey thing. |

All black with just the dress matching tie sounds really sexy haha.
But my boy matched my sage green dress with a vest and tie. It was so adorable cause we matched so well. I think Vest and/or Tie are a good enough matching system. |

my dress is actually mainly black with tidbits of white and I didn't exactly want my date to look like a conductor/penguin so I told him to incorporate some grey/silver. we'll see how it goes in two weeks, pictures will say if it was successful or not!
