Dani and I want to start our own createBlog podcast where we talk about design, music, anime, technology, whatever. We'd like to get other people involved, and see what other topics you guys would like to hear about, etc. If you're interested in getting involved, please sign up.

Hopefully we can maybeee bring in some new members, or at least get our less active members (such as the ones that just browse the resources sections) to post more around the community.

Very great idea, and I actually like the idea of having a podcast. Unfortunately, like all great ideas on cB, this is another epic fail. sigh...

Of course we could talk about what's going on with the site, too. Maybe highlight a few designs we think are specifically good and just kind of mention them on the podcast. Kind of a "good job guys!" thing.

Some of the ideas you're throwing at me on AIM are pretty good, too.

Can Nate and I talk about movies? And maybe sometimes I can do some music?

This is me volunteering Nate, but I'm sure he'd love the opportunity.

Heck yeah. I was thinking about this a while ago. xD

Toss me in the mix. I'm good with parental (haha) advice, cooking advice (as is Diana lol), and bed time stories (lol). I'd join any music, movie, tv and book discussion as well.

Oh and I've been told I have a good podcast voice. hahahaha

Damn straight.

Sex chat will be done by yours truely.
Nothing super x rated.

I'm not sure how this would work out, but I'd be willing to join in on this. I could talk on behalf of the Design Staff, and what we don't want to see in submissions. Or something more interesting.

Ok what Dani and I decided to do is let you guys record what you want to record for our first podcast, then submit it to us via PM. Please sign up here though, as others might be interested in joining your topic, etc.

Dani and I will choose what we want to feature in our podcast, and combing it all into one. Those that we do not choose, we'll link in the official release topic. (Sorry, but we have to be a bit selective in the pickings.)

Those that we would like to return on a recurring basis, we will let you know via PM. Of course, if you are not picked for a recurring spot you may submit something for every episode, but again we will be very selective.

Please leave any background music out of your recordings. If you would like certain music played, we will add them to the podcast during post-production.

Tips on how you can record stuff if you are planning to record with another member of cb:

goto InstantConference.com and sign up for a free account. Then host a conference call together and dial *9 to start recording!

QUOTE
The host will then be prompted to enter the subscriber pin. Each participant will then be required to acknowledge acceptance to continue participating. To stop the recording, press *9 again. Once the recording is complete, it will remain available until you record over it or up to 120 days. You can record an unlimited number of times.

Your recordings are automatically converted to MP3 format and are playable on any computer or MP3 digital audio player. Within two hours of the conference's end time, you'll receive an e-mail containing instructions and a link to the computer download, along with a telephone number and access code for telephone playback of your recording. At that point, your conference call recording is available for immediate telephone playback for up to 150 callers at the same time. Alternatively, simply download the MP3 file and forward to others or play back at your leisure. Once you have downloaded your recording, it is yours to use, edit, or share without any limitations.

Other tips:
  • Know what you're going to talk about. Whether you write down what topics you're going to discuss/points you're going to make or whatever... just have something prepared before you record, and that should reduce the amount of awkward silence.
  • Make sure that there is no noise in the background - your laptop's fan, your parents, your dog, w/e. It's not a good look.
  • Don't make it too long. Other people will be submitting thing as well and we dont want a 2 hour long podcast. Just go over a few points and then leave the rest for your next segment on our next podcast! Short segments are good too, we can use it for filler content.
  • ARTICULATE. SPEAK CLEARLY. Don't mumble into the mic, no one can understand what you're saying.

Though just as a warning to everyone, it's really slow and finicky. Not that I should really complain because it's free, but it's still pretty annoying to go through and edit shit, just to have it freeze up as you're trying to save.

thats why i suggested instantconference, so you can use your phone if you dont have a mic or recording software. it also reduces the amount of noise from your laptop's fan, etc.

It'd be cool to work with the music heads of cB and make a sort of music portion for the podcast.

Personally, I'd be interested in working with the hip hop heads around here.

I don't know how much time I'd personally be able to put in though, but if it's some real nice production, who knows.

There's no problem with three people doing one topic. By all means, get as many people involved as you can.

Also, guys please try not to monopolize all the topics. Sammi for one, you're doing a bunch of topics. I'd appreciate if you partnered up for a few of them.

What do you think? laugh.gif :P

Need to get another "sign up" list going. This one is antiquated, to say the very least.

I actually dropped out last time because I didn't like the way it was being handled (or not handled). This is probably going to come out so wrong, but it seemed like the two of the "hosts" were either not very well known to members or generally didn't get along well with members. It felt doomed from the beginning.

So we'll need an outline of subjects/topics and volunteers (hopefully of the non flake variety).

lol, so this was just gone in the wind after Trish left, huh.

Meh, after thinking about it, maybe this is a bit too ambitious for cB at it's current state. Maybe when it's more active. I was just curious what happened 'cause the idea seemed to attract a lot of attention at the time.

If other people are interested right now though, I'll gladly help jump start you guys.

Haha. It was sort of gone even while she was still here. Don't get me wrong though, it's a neat idea and I know that she had the best of intentions.

I think that in the future it's something to consider, but I think if we (as a group, both community and staff) focus on one thing at a time, like the cb wiki, we'd have a better chance of actually following through.

We just didn't have enough interest for it to be exclusive the way she wanted it to be. We'd have to accept all submissions in order for it to be even remotely successful, which is totally fine with me.

The main thing of course is going to be interest.

I think once this slump in activity is over, then more people will have interest in this. When it was first talked about, it got a lot of interested people and then it just kinda died. I'm not too sure if it was that people just weren't interested in it anymore or that they weren't interested in the fact that it would take work and who they'd be working with.

Whatever, swearing is tricky business. I'll just take the BRIT'S word for it.
