I don't know if you guys have heard the controversy regarding the latest Vogue cover...

People are complaining that it's racist. That his "gorilla-like" pose is perpetuating racial stereotypes. That it portrays an angry black man. That it screams "King Kong."

If you see a black man and a white woman on a cover and immediately think "King Kong" then really... who's the racist?

I'm really getting sick of people calling things out as racist when there's none to be found. People need to lighten up.

agreed.

i hate when people point out a race and another person claims that their racist.
like my friend was secretly pairing up people in our class. and she pairs up people who have the same race. that wasnt coincedental nor was it purposeful..if you get what i mean. then all of a sudden this other girl called her racist.

thought you were gonna say something like a white and black person are togeter in a magazine cover for the first time or soemthing:XD:

and that is NOT king kong. king kong is like..bigger.

QUOTE
Basketball player LeBron James and supermodel Gisele Bündchen will mug for the cover of Vogue's shape issue, according to the New York Post. This would break all the rules of a Vogue cover. Seldom does editrix Anna Wintour put on her cover: (a) more than one model, (b) a man, © a person of color. We looked back at ten years of Vogue covers and compiled a list and images of these three rare instances after the jump. We also discovered Gisele was the last lady to appear with a man (George Clooney) on the cover, proving life is just not fair.

nymag

haha don't you see it happening all the time though? everytime something is different, people find ways to bash it.

edit//^i know, i think it's quite cute as well

how unbelievably pathetic for people to think that this is racist. always trying to stir up controversy.

i would have never come to the conclusion of lebron portraying a "king kong" like image. i mean HELLO, has anyone ever seen him play basketball before?? he's aggressive on the court and it just shows that side of him on the cover.

I totally agree. People really have to get over these kinds of things. The cover is not racist AT ALL, and is actually super cute. = =''

I got that issue in the mail a few days ago, and definitely didn't see it like that. Giselle was almost unrecognizable to me...which in a way was a good thing. God I hate her.

Yea I agree, I didn't even recognize her. I also don't like her either.

WTH, first people (in general, no racial intentions here) complain about being underrepresented, and when something is portrayed in a way that is not to their liking, they complain about it. This just goes to show how f*cked up some things are.

Haha I also think it's kinda cute.

She looks more like Angela Lindvall in that picture, which makes it slightly more appealing to me since I find Angela Lindvall gorgeous. Or a mix of Angela Lindvall and Marissa Miller.

I definitely find it awkward a black man with a basketball is on the cover of Vogue, especially it being > 1 person. But racism was not the first thing on my mind, in fact, it never did cross my mind.

That's Giselle? haha, oops.
I didn't see it as racist at all. People are just ridiculous... there was this great article on it though by Jason Whitlock, if anyone wants to read it.

On this other forum I posted on it was not so much the cover they were complaining about. They however were calling Lebron a coon for his part even appearing on Vogue due to the fact that the magazine has mostly white people in it, but yet unwilling to sign a petition of condemnation to the Chinese government for their role in Dwarfer.

They said all his teammates signed it but him , and they think its money involved because of his contract with Nike ( somehow ties to China I forgot how) and the upcoming Olympics being held in China.

Anything for controversy.
Its ridiculous!
But i don't know, if the people who designed and/or came up with the cover idea didn't have a racial intent, its not racist, end of story.

And Xquizit didn't mention it on this post but Lebron J. is the first black male to be on vogue.

I don't see it as racist and I don't think others should. Maybe it was like a fun shoot, and I don't see any "King Kong". People are so weird now days. It's just famous baller and model.

Gisele Bundchen is so damn hot!

Omg... that's the picture that's been on the radio all day??? f**kin shit man, who came up with the idea that he looks like King Kong??

Does anyone notice what's goin on? There's something/someone out there that's tryin to split this country in every which way, religion, politics, race, class, etc... It's just mind boggling how f**kin ridiculous humans can be.

They're very unflattering poses, and it could be seen as stereotypical. I don't just see Lebron and Giselle on a cover of Vogue; they're not normal poses to me. The photographer could have easily made them stand there and not make stupid faces with a blonde on his arm. Sort of destroys the demeanor of Vogue.
