Ok well I made this uber simple layout.. in spring colors because, well, it's spring right? or atleast going to be very soon; the pollen is already here.

It's very simple. I was wondering what you people thaught about it before I tried submitting. Does it need a background? are the colors okay? feedback please.

Maybe one more color? Like pink? It could be added at the bottom with the flowery stuff. Otherwise, I love the navigation, I think it's very cute. Very springy. The date looks nice...

WAIT! I don't think I like the content box at the top. I really only think a quote would look nice right there...but not everyone will do that. That's my opinion. What else would you put there? I dunno. If you moved the date up and just erased that, I think I'd like it better.

splatter....I dunno. Personally I'm a huge fan of splatters, but it's already so simple and elegant looking, with the curved lines...play around?

And it's only my personal opinion. =P Both pink or yellow would look nice....but honestly, it looks nice as it is. I'm still loving that navigation.

I love the layout but you should make the content box bigger or put it under the blog and raise the blog more. The colors can be blinding too.

Actually it wouldn't be REDOING it.. it would be doing it. The links I have right now are just regular links, not images.

it's pretty impossible to do links like that in GIMP.. it would be a pain. =\

Okay now put the top box under the main content and move the main content up, so it won't have blank space up there or add a little design up there or some brushes. I think the extra box is a good idea but I didn't like the placement of it at first.

I don't like the scrollbar. It extends too long (which means the content box is too long). It overlaps with your graphics at the bottom. The colors of the scrollbar annoy me and it doesn't seem to fit. Try only having the arrows.

Lol. You kind of remind me of Jakkin Stewart, from the pit dragon trilogy.

Make the blog DIV shorter, it touches the edge. Eew.
And make the scrollbar track color for the DIVs' green. And it seems like the content box goes down too low. Make it not so tall.


Otherwise, I really like it. :]
You're the first person I've seen who actually made the cursor stay default while scrolling over links without blinking to the hand for a split second. Kudos.

There is no such thing as "the DIV's green." The div is a gradient; No matter what color I put the scrollbar, some parts will not match.

It's a gradient!? Didn't even notice.
I guess I can kinda see it now. But it just looks like my screen being weird 'cause it's LCD.
So yeah. I'd change it for the scrollbar.

The contrast is in your layout is hardly noticeable. I would either choose a darker green or a darker blue. It feels like an eye sore right now with similar colors paired with the blinding white. I don't like the two content boxes you have. . .it's confusing, and they are far too close to each other. I would do something to the bottom half of the content box to make it obvious that is actually a second content box.

I would also suggest using more than two colors. It looks pretty bland as it is right now just with a rounded table and one big brush at the bottom.

And you need to look into coding for Firefox, as well. There is no gradient on Firefox.

I'd have suggested choosing a slightly less bright shade of green since the contrast is a bit eye popping, but I rather like the gradient you used.

As for the navigation links, I'd suggest leaving them at the top, but instead, creating a horizontal bar with rounded corners that follows the outline of the main box in stead of just squares.

You might want to try making the boxes bigger, and spiffing up the link area design with maybe a simple hover effect.

I'd also suggest extending the flower pattern a little up the left hand side vertically to create some vertical flow.

As a whole, I think its nice, but still a bit empty. I suggest going for a subtle tiled background maybe?

Cause on Maxthon and IE, the transparency for the main image isn't working; instead it shows a white box behind it. Since your background is plain and doesn't have anything on it, it might be best to just make your main layout image a JPG or even a solid GIF, for extended browser compatibility.

It works perfectly fine. you simply do not have the lastest version of IE and whatever the other browser was you named. ( I use IE btw ).

You can't expect people to have the latest version of IE. The number of IE7 is growing, but there are still a lot of IE6 users. But then again, this is only if you want your layout to have near-maximum browser compatibility.

Plus there are ways to make PNG transparencies work. You simply should not use them at all unless you plan on making them work in IE6, because there's still a large group of people who use it. :3

I think it looks alright in the browser I'm using (Firefox), the lines are clean and everything looks crisp. My only problem is the background - it appears to be a solid color for me, no matter how "faint" the gradient is, I can't see it. =\ I would make the gradient a bigger change so it's noticeable in the background (if that's what you're referring to, I can't see it ;_;), because right now the background is too plain.

Maybe if you had a tall background image that tiled horizontally? you could have a line going all the way through the center, maybe, with a fading pattern of some kind to give it some subtle interest. Just a thought! :)
