Those that interact with me on a somewhat daily basis, read my poorly written blogs or have met me throughout my life understand my obvious infatuation with music. Aside from Jazz, I love HipHop with a passion that makes a Boston Red Sox fan look like he's hopping on the bandwagon. The HipHop that I love revives the original elements and experiments boldly by merging with other genres. Check my collection of MF Doom and J Dilla and you'll understand where I'm coming from. The unconventional sound is just that much more appealing to me than bouncing around to the chest pounding bass of DJ Paul's (Three 6 Mafia) production. It's a matter of preference, and this "left-field" sound is what I prefer. There's a method to my madness, and although the determination of good music is largely a matter of opinion, if someone finds a good enough reason to give something new a chance, then it must be worth listening to. Mr. Lif is an emcee from Boston who often pushes his intricate flow, consistent multis and debatable subject matter over rhythmically eccentric beats by producers as interesting as him. I urge all of you to give him a chance, and if you still would rather listen to Soulja Boy, then you may not be ready for such a drastic change in HipHop (concerning the mainstream). Yessir, I actually discovered Mr. Lif when looking for a beat DJ Qbert was skratching to, Be Out. Really though, I haven't really listened to his songs enough to say I know much about him. I mostly use his instrumentals for skratching, so I don't know about his lyrical content all that much. At first it didn't sound like my thing, but I usually have to listen to stuff more than twice before I realize that I can really dig it.
