If you have a Facebook, you probably know about the group called "BRB, IM NOT REALLY GOING ANYWHERE, BUT NEITHER IS THIS CONVERSATION" (click). When you say "brb," are you actually going somewhere temporarily or pretending to be away? Same for "lol," "lmao," and "rofl": are you really amused or just saying that because you have no better response?

I always mean the acronyms that I use.

Most of the time when I say a internet acronym, BRB for example, I actually really do so. It would be stupid to pretend that you're doing something. Just don't respond. shrug.gif The only time I say 'lol' when I'm actually laughing out loud, or what I say has a sense of "humor" to it.

I put LOL sometimes... most of the time I'm not even laughing. Or smiling. When I do actually laugh I put LMAO or something... I say brb when I'm going somewhere or doing something... even close to the computer. Most of the time I'll end up walking away from the computer without letting them know i'm leaving.

I don't use internet acronyms often, but when I do, I mean them. For example, when I type, "HOIPMNIACASTTPCATSH", I seriously mean, "Hold on, I pushed my neighbor into a cactus and she's threatening to press charges again, the scrupulous hag". Like you guys said, it would be stupid to just use that when the circumstance doesn't even call for it.

If I found them boring, or don't want to talk to them anymore, I wouldn't say brb. I would say "uh, yeah, I gtg"

As for LOL. I sometimes actually laugh for reals, but when I go HAHAHAHAHHAA. I'm really laughing.

I use LMAO when I laugh out loud, and LOL when something makes me smile, but it's not funny enough to make me laugh. Weird, I know.

Yea I say brb, but I do mean it because I actually go to search the interwebz for something or go posting or w/e. Or even when I'm doing hw, but I can still answer them. I'm just lazy to, and sometimes i forget to say "back" because I tend to close the window. shrug.gif

Same with me.
Mostly, I just use them as filters, when I have nothing else to say. Occasionally I say BRB when I'm right there but it's because they're boring or I'm busy at the computer. Majority of the time I really do go away though. In order to avoid this though, I usually have an away message on even when I am chatting - it's just so I don't have to bother with annoying/boring people.

I only catch myself saying lol when i'm not loling is when people are typing out a story and I respond with lol in between their lines. But I usually go hahah or I LOL'D, when i do laugh or smile at their comments.

I use to do the BRB thing but i just usually go away unless i care about who i'm talking to, then i let them know.

Heh, well I do actually use brb properly, but as for lol and lmao, I use them in the same way Christina does. I rarely actually laugh out loud, but I usually type that when I find something funny.

Yeah. But sometimes I lie a tad bit.
Sometimes "Brb" really means "You're a f*g. I don't want to talk to you"

And "Lol" usually means "I don't care".

Tad bit.

or
...well, youll get it..
something like that. unless i caps it.
lmao is just "i really only giggled"
rotfl is "nahh, dont care"

well..sometimes when I say BRB it's actually because I don't feel like talking to whomever i've been talking to, but sometimes I do leave.

and most of the time I say lol it's because i'm lying. the only time i laugh for real is when i go "hahahaha".

Internet Acronyms ruined America.

The whole "brb" thing is my last resort if the conversation isn't really going anywhere. Thats a cute group though, I think I'll join. XD.gif Yeah, I say lol after almost every line online but I barely laugh whenever I say it. When I say LOL, I giggle. mellow.gif

i hate using brb in away messages. it sounds so cliche to me. i hardly ever put away messages up. i use LOL when i really mean it and lol when the convo is boring or the joke isn't as funny, or just when i have nothing else left to say. i use lmao and LOL interchangeably. that`s about it.

If I want to imply that something isn't really funny, I go "lol".
If something is funny enough to make me smile in my head, I go "haha" or "lmao".
If something is funny enough to make me smile, I go "LOL" or "HAHA".

But the other person usually knows when I'm really laughing my ass off. I either go "LMFAO!!!!!!" or "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" (x3).

"lol" is to the internet as "um" is to talking. It has no more substance for me anymore...if someone tells me a joke and I respond with "lol", it's likely that I thought it sucked but don't want to say anything bad. If it's actually funny, I'll say something like LOOOOOOOL or HAHAHAHAHHAHA or ROFLROFL. But that's rare, and annoying.

If I want someone to leave me alone, usually I just ignore them and remove all signs of me being online. Like, turning off the music function on MSN, making sure your status isn't shown on Facebook, etc. Then you can just pretend you went AWOL.

I've had mine hidden for the past few months because I don't like feeling pressured to return someone's Wall post if they know I'm online. Also, I just like feeling like a shinobi.
