Adding an Image next to the address |

I'm building my first website, and I want to add a little image at the top, next to the address, but I don't know how to do it yet, or even what it's really called (which makes searching for a tutorial kind of tricky.)
Like this:  Anyone know where I could find a tutorial/script for that? I'd really appreciate it!

i believe its called a favicon?
From what i read, make it in photoshop and save it as fav.ico ? |
