So. I know alot of you on this forum currently reside in Asia, my question to you is how is your english so perfected? Do they offer english classes? _unsure.gif Im not sure how the school systems work over there so could some one enlighten me?

Oh and are there any language classes in particular that you are forced to take? (generally speaking from what we here call "Elementary" till "High School") mellow.gif

Please & Gracias. thumbsup.gif

Well I don't live in Asia at the moment but it's just a known fact that nowadays, English is extremely respected and taught in tons and tons of countries, not just in Asia, but throughout the world. Since the United States or other English speaking countries have become major trading/manufacturing/industrial countries, it's really important to have as many people as possible learn English in order to work effectively in today's modern business world.

I don't live in Asia, but I know a lot of people that live there with really good English.

I'm not sure about other countries, but I know Korea makes English a mandatory subject in school. I think it starts from around middle school, and its treated like any other subject.

Some families apply to be home stay houses -- I actually know quite a few people who learned English through constant interaction with foreigners.

Some people in Asia go to International schools.

Others just study really hard, go to a lot of academies, and practice like mad.

There are some people, especially those that major in English, that learn it for the major.

There are so many ways ...

but for the most part, the masses, even after learning English in school, aren't too great.

I live in Japan, but I'm an American.

There are required English courses students are required to take throughout the K-12 level, but it doesn't explore much of the language past basic grammar and conversational skills. Once in college, students have the choice of what language they'll pursue, and it may or may not be English. From what I've noticed, those that study English are already immersed in Western culture, whether it be music or movies, so their comprehension of English is really impressive.
