Shaking, Earthquake! Options

Woohoo! 1am earthquake in England (only a baby one).

Damn, I'm so scared my little heart is going ten-to-the-dozen.

It's not often we have quakes in the UK. I can't get over the noise.

Anyone else experienced one - or a big one?

i experienced a tiny one. when i was younger. i hardly remember. my mom said i was happy!

Another one could follow. My mum told my sister that there was to be n earthquake. She has also predicted other events, including the 9/11
attacks. I'm not kidding. That was big.

I've felt only about two earthquakes. The first one I felt (when I was sober) which was 2 years ago. It was a minor one (thank god) and it only lasted for a few seconds. The second one I felt was about 15 seconds and it was bigger than the first one. I was extremely scared and I thought it would have been the big one that hit us, but luckily it ended and didn't cause any damage to my neighborhood (or us for that matter). I hate earthquakes, they always scare me because I'm always afraid that it'll be the big one that hits us.

We had one really tiny one in the middle of the night one time. I woke up confused because things were making noise, but I blamed it on the fan and went back to sleep.

I'm fortunate enough to have never experienced one. Isn't it true that you're supposed to go under a door frame or something?

I'm in California, and I feel minor earthquakes all the time. A few months ago, we had one big enough to get on the local news. As soon as I felt the house shaking, I jumped up with clenched fists and roared, "THE EARTH TREMBLES WITH MY POWER". It stopped shortly thereafter, though. My roof didn't even cave in or anything, which was pretty disappointing.

Really, really scary at times. But small ones arent so bad.

There was a 5 earthquake on my birthday a few years back.
earthquakes are normal. get over it.

<pointless ramble> I THINK ABOUT EARTHQUAKES EVERY DAY.
i live within 6 hours of the New Madrid fault line (Missouri). the major one that everyone knows about was in 1811-1812. a lot of places here have been preparing for any activity in the last few years. i had an assignment in 7th grade to research a natural disaster and i got the New Madrid earthquakes...i found a lot of info that i still have. the one thing that sticks to me a lot is..."The probability for an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 or greater is significant in the near future, with a 50% chance by the year 2000 and a 90% chance by the year 2040."
i do NOT work well with natural disasters, every time i hear a loud rumble or feel a little shake, i effing FAREAK out. </pointless ramble>

Take it from me, you just need to know how to react against one. You're supposed to spread your jacket wide so you appear larger than you really are.

Or maybe that was with mountain lions, I can't remember. Well, it couldn't hurt to do it anyways. I got horribly mauled by a cougar once because I tried to "stop, drop, and roll", so don't do that against them.

I felt one here in Vancouver when I was younger, but just a very small one. It wasn't a huge deal or anything.

Woke up in the morning, and was totally baffled as to why the water in the pool was half gone.

I live in the midwest, so I haven't. My teacher, who's from California, said that he prefers earth quakes over tornados, because when you die in an earth quake your body stays where you were, not thrown 300 miles away, ha.

I felt one once for like two seconds. All the other earthquakes I've seemed to miss when everyone else had felt it. I do not hold the California stereotype.

A while back, I was in California for the first time in ages and i woke up to a baby earthquake and then anothe one following right after. Totally dazed.

I don't remember feeling any earthquake whatsoever during my lifetime. Either I was too young, or just sleeping.

That's pretty scary though that your mom predicted that as well as 9/11. So like, do you expect things to happen when she predicts them now?

Good thing you put <pointless ramble> about that, because, not only am I, too, from Missouri, but I have never heard of the earthquake of 1811-1812 that you make sound so famous, and bragging about the New Madrid fault line is like bragging about winning Yahtzee, especially since there are never any earthquakes around here.

^i know, i started thinking too much when i read this thread. aren't you from the KC area, anyways? 'cause the New Madrid is down in the boot hill, not that that really has anything to do with it. there are actually weekly small movements down there but it's hardly noticable. >_<

ive been in one in oct 2006, when hawaii had that f**king earthquake. man, i was so scared. i really thought all of hawaii was gonna DIE. :( all my family & friends here. BUT THEN AT THE SAME TIME, it was SOOOO COOL!

it was a pretty big one too, not BIG BIG, but damn, everyone in hawaii felt it. and then.. 20 mins later, there was that after shake. i find it funny, during that time, a lot of people knew earthquake terms, now i forgot all the terms i learned from watching the news all night and listening to the radio.
