So I have SAT 1 (Again!) on March 1st (THAT'S LIKE A WEEK LEFT FROM TODAY!). I was not satisfied with my first one in December 1st. I noticed that Critical Reading pretty much is the worst score ever.
There is quite some big words and there are words that I have seen before but I don't know what it means or I don't even say/write it. I tried studying some big words on my Barron's PREP book, but not sure if it will give me a good score on my second try. (I'm deciding to take it the 3rd time) I have a Barron's SAT Prep book, which I have been doing since my 1st SAT. I already know that a lot of people been saying like just read more books, study the vocabs in prep book, but of course I know that. I just want to know if there are any other extensive ways to improve it. Tips anyone to improve Critical Reading score? |

when you're in the one-blank or two-blank question portion, determine whether the word should have a positive, negative, or neutral connotation.
in passages, pay attention to the verbs in the answers. "to expose, to describe, to attack, to express, etc." generally speaking, the extreme verbs (to attack, to glorify) won't be correct. underline the verbs if it helps you. to get a general idea of the passage, read the first and last sentence of each paragraph. if you need a clearer idea, read the first paragraph, last paragraph, then first and last sentences of each paragraph. just a couple tips from my copyright-infringing college prep program. |

Reading faster would make me have more mistakes. lol. If I read fast, I tend to not understand what the heck is going on. lol.
Thanks for the tip, Ruth. I remember reading about that pos/neg/neutral connotation but somehow on tests, I forget about this (especially if I don't know what the words mean that are listed). The last tip seems reasonable. I might try that! Thanks. |
