so I read the topic by pandora about the design contest

how about making it a little simpler
take an average picture and see who can do the best editing job with it.

and possibly create a new box on the cB home page saying "featured designers", and have the usernames of the top 5 designs there

yes/no?

i think the whole pnt of the design contest was for it to be something ~different~ seeing as most contest are based on a pic or theme of some sort...but i read the contest thread it should def be for more advanced people and ur idea would be good for beginners

it could be for very less experienced people, and it may even help them improve their skills some.

Isn't that that photo manipulation contest? Last manipulator standing or something.

We've had too many contests like that. They all died due to lack of participation. I think it's time for something new.

..yet you think people would want to create "things that professionals would make"?
i know i wouldnt want to waste my time doing that. I'd rather do something a lot easier and not so useless.

You know you don't have to participate in the contest. And more people have been up to doing that contest than they have saying they want an easier contest. We're trying something new. We've done too many of the contests you like. TOO MANY! And they all die. Some never get anywhere. It's about time we do something new. If you don't want to participate, you don't have too.

And obviously more people want to make professional style material that want you proposed. Just look at the difference in replies. mellow.gif

well jeeze, excuse me for not knowing that things like this have happened before.
the only reason no one wants to do it is because it's already been done

this contest should still be around however for the people that dont want to do all the professional crap.

^yeah but you're missing their point i think. those people who don't want to do all the professional crap don't seem to want to do this either. like they said, this kinda contest never works so the are trying something new.

I realize the issue here isn't so much "this contest is stupid, I want one like this instead" so I don't think talking about which one is better is necessary - the original poster is looking for a contest that's a little more simple. I think she's unaware that we've done contests like this in the past and we have no plans to completely discontinue these types of contests. Obviously there's not going to be one happening all the time, but I don't want to make it seem like it's never going to happen again. We will continue to have these types of contests - usually they get started when we see a large surge of traffic in the showcase booth, so if you guys want a contest, show us you're ready for it! We don't want to have a contest with no participants.

The featured designers thing is an interesting idea, too - Jusun would have to implement it if it was something the majority wanted to do, though.

It's been said like three times. Just read what we're saying for once. If it's already been done and no one wants to do it then what are we talking about? You're really confusing me here.

You need to give a lot more ideas on a simpler contest. If you find enough people dedicated that will do it. Then go ahead and come up with a full plan/idea/etc. You don't need staff to make a contest. You just should have one member as a judge so they can pin, close, etc for you.

True, that's another good point. Regular members (i.e., not staff members) make their own contests all the time - it's just a matter of taking the initiative to organize it and get people involved.
