After you have an idea of a website you want to make, know what you want in it and selected a web host, where does it go from there...?
Do you tell them what you want in it and they do it? Will they have different formats/style you can select from, do you have to make that up yourself or buy it from another site? I know they give you space for what you pay for, but will there be a selection of ways you could have your site done? Also...will they do the "clickable" stuff for you? example the top of this page says....Layouts, Graphics, Scripts ect. can I tell them what to put up there and they'll do it? Thanks. |

Basically they give you "space" for you to create files (html, pictures, music, movies, flash, etc..) they save it on their server and becomes viewable to the public (unless you set your site to private.)
To further answer your question... if you believe you have the skills to make a site yourself, you can just pay for the hosting on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis. If you think you cannot create your site on your own... some hosting companies would need you to send them all the data you want put into your website. You tell them how you want your site to look and they will give you examples (pre-made templates) you choose from those ideas and they'll work with you on how you want your site to look. Also keep in mind, if you plan to have a webmaster from the hosting company, prepare to pay up some big bucks. |

Thanks for the info. Would you happen to know any good reliable web host for the ones that help you put everything and the ones who let you create everything by yourself.
BTW dont you have to pay for the hosting on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis no matter which one you get. Is there a difference in the end result of web host that I send my data too from the one I do myself(more freedom, prices, ect)? |

Yeah they have different plans... the three most popular are Tucows, Networksolutions, and Hostway. Go to their sites and take a look at their plans before calling them. If you want to create your own site, you ftp into your domain and upload all your files. If you much rather have someone build your website, then you upload whatever files and give them ideas of what you want. They'll give you some ideas to see if that's what you're interested in. |

Visit GoDaddy or 1and1, they offer tool that design a website for you. They are pretty good and come with the hosting you buy.
GoDaddys is called WebSite tonight and 1and1's is called WebSite Builder or something like that. A webhosting provides you with many services. The first being space on a maintained server that has to be kept up and running. They also provide you with support, say if you can not see your website you email them and they look into the problem and fix it. Depending on who you purchase from, some are better at what they do than others. Do some shopping around and Google the company you are looking at. |

Yea, godaddy and 1and1 have site builders but you should get hosted on like http://www.surpasshosting.com/ or some host related to that site because they give you cpanel [control panel] and theres a thing called Fantastico in there where you can also build your site without knowing coding:] I get hosted by Pink-pistol.net they are really good:] |

I was checking out 1and1, Tucows, Networksolutions, and Hostway and they all seem great, but I heard Godaddy was having trouble, so I most likly won't choose them. If I want a website like ebay meaning.....viewers of the site can post things up anytime they want and theres a time limit can any of the host mention above do that? If something needs to be updated on the site every day or week, do they do it, do I do it or is it automatic?

The way I'm understanding your post, (please don't take this the wrong way!) you seem to be rather inexperienced in the web development field. Am I correct in that assumption?
Basically, you won't find a host who will take care of all these things for you - what you need is a web designer, someone who will handle most of it and make it something you can work with - the host only provides space for your site and very basic site-building tools, nothing as detailed as what you're wanting. When you hire a web designer, you would talk over with them what would happen if the site needed updated, etc. Hiring someone to build a site for you can be very expensive, but if you're not familiar with how to build a site and need this anytime soon, it will be your best option. Also, I realize you didn't receive a response in a little more than 24 hours, but please don't bump topics in this forum while they're still on the first page - give everyone a chance to look at it first, then after you've given it some time it's acceptable to bring up your topic again. :) |

^"Bump" is an acronym, it means "bring up my post" - if a topic in a forum doesn't get any replies it falls to the bottom of the forum, so posting a new reply "bumps" it back up to the top. This is generally frowned upon though and is thought of as annoying unless the person has a good reason for bringing it back up again.

You'll find many free hosts out there that provide "templates" or "site builders" for your basic site content. You might want to just set up an account and play around with it for a while - it may take some time to get familiar with how everything works.
