Fate or Destiny, what's the difference between fate and destiny? Options

i've always wonder what's the difference between "fate" and "destiny"? i know that it's somehow similar but can pls. someone explain the real difference between these? coz sometimes i hear on movies, like Serendipity, they say: "It's not fate, it's destiny"

There is no difference. They are synonymous. Some people like to pretend they are different because "destiny" sounds fancier. "Fate" has only one syllable, a singular, guttural sound that can be emitted without effort and danger of romantic connotative undertones, which is the way a word should be. If someone in a movie says "It's not fate, it's destiny", they are attempting to muster the best that their pseudointellect is capable of by trying to sound dramatic in lieu of actual thoughtfulness.

If I were in a movie, and someone said this to me, I would throw a steam pipe through his or her chest, impaling them to the wall. Steam would come shooting out the end of it. "Let off some steam," I would say with a straight face. Then, my character would become trapped under a huge sea of bunny rabbits, and the only way out is to eat my way to the surface. That would make way more sense than, "It's not fate, it's destiny." Brr.
