Do the colors work well together or is it clashy? Is it neatly organized and easy on the eyes, or is it all f**ked up and messy? Does the writer write well and does not do internet-speak? Does it look like they took the time to make it instead of shoving bits and pieces together to make it "fit?"
I look for written content. Forums/polls/etc have no effect on me. |

accessibility...member activity....forums are fun depending on what kind, good content, pretty pictures, tutorials, weekly///monthly activities, and more than likely some decent php skills would need to be used

this is a pretty vague question. in my mind, i was thinking of personal blogs/domains, like the kind i have and browse rather than say a commercial kind of website. so i thought the blog content was pretty important, as well as the organization [neatness of the columns, etc] but i think catching eyes is fairly important as well.

I like freebies, so long as they are usable, of good quality and their Terms of Use are not ridiculously over-policed or exaggerated. I like a website to be clean, organised and have some personal updates as well as design-y updates within the content. (I like to feel like I know a designer or a blogger). It must be unique, well presented and be updated regularly.

I tend to love websites right off the bat that have a good design. Easy on the eyes, nice contrasting colors, text is easy to read, it's simple but not boring. After that, the only real reason I ever have for coming back to a site is the content, so if they have a resource that's useful for me such as tutorials, pictures, or photoshop tools; or if they have interesting articles, I'll likely keep coming to the site.

i think the pole needs to be changed so you can choose multiples...
i generally look for something unique-whether it be in design or content. coordinating colors, organized, and not boring. as for content, i look for something i need or may use in the future, like brushes or plug-ins for photoshop. also, i 100% agree with S-Majere. |

Content, content, content. The most important aspect to a website (for me) is content and organization. Sure, the flashy splashy stuff is pretty but if the site is a mess, having a beautiful banner isn't going to amount to much.

Organization is HUGE.
The owner could some philosophical shit going on but if the site's all messed up, whats the point? The next thing i look for is written content. Color isn't a big deal, as long as everything is visible. But that can fall under organization. |

I mainly look for the freebies, mostly tutorials.
As for the layout goes, I like the kind thats very eye-catching and unique. The content must be organized. |

For me, when I go to sites, I definitely like to see a very nice, organized, and professional layout. It cannot be all messy and all of that shit. There must be updates at least once every 1-2 days. That's what keeps people coming back. There should be interesting blogs (not ones that just say "oh yeah i went to school, then took a shit, and then I had lunch and went to take a shit again." The site must be extremely organized and the content has to be good (obviously).

The layout should be well-coded, organized, and aesthetically pleasing. I usually visit sites for graphics, sometimes layouts. The content should be written with as few errors as possible. Updates should be made at least once or twice a week, since I know a lot of designers don't have time to make new blogs or layouts/graphics every day. The site overall should have a good feel to it.

The written content matters, I usually don't look much at other stuff, but I guess it depends on what the purpose of the website is.

It really depends on what the website's supposed to be. If it's a graphics or resource site, the main layout has the biggest impact on me (since it's usually a good indicator of the webmaster/mistress's skill), followed closely by organization and content. If it's a blog or personal site, then the main layout doesn't matter so much unless they've got, like, neon green text on a bright blue background. Content is a biggie.
Organization usually comes up high on my list, but for some reason, it's never first. <_< |
